However, any book-based argument against having a black actor play Bond can be (and indeed was) levelled against having a blond actor play Bond. Per the books, Daniel Craig is as wrong for the part as Idris Elba.

Yeah, the series has nothing tondo with the books. It shares titles occasionally, but that's about it. Invisible cars.

Meh...I have always been far more interested in the cars and Bond girls then who actually played the James Bond character.

70% of the profit for the last three Bond movies have come from foreign markets, the question should be; will a black Bond do as well in them?

I'm not sure it's fair to say it has nothing to do with them - the influence seems to wax and wane with time. Some of the early films (especially "From Russia With Love") are near-perfect representations of the books. And while the series certainly drifted away, "Casino Royale" saw a marked return to being much more faithful (not just in the events of the latter half of the film, but in the tone overall). And "Skyfall" likewise features lots of things taken from the books (and/or earlier, more faithful, films) - including the obituary I mentioned, and the names on the tombstones up at Skyfall itself.

The invisible car was stupid of course.

Here's Eldra's response to the rumours.

Nothing against the proposed actor ... but has Daniel Craig's run wrapped up already? I liked him -- thought he was good for the series, and would like to see him in a few more Bond films yet.

Another two, which will take him to age 50 or so. Problem is, Eldra is also in his 40s now.

Is there a money thing or is five films / five years (for TV) just a "magic" point to replace actors? :)

Options 3 and 4. Actor's age, or their lack of desire to continue doing it forever. Craig has said he doesn't want to be Bond in his 50s.
