Soulknife's Useless Power Point Reserve ?!?

...get it house ruled so that the powerpoints, in the case of the xeph, can be used for additional usages of Burst, or to extend its duration.

That's a good idea. Our group should probably be able to work something out along those lines. Thanx. :D

This is why the Racial Specialty Level for the Xeph Soulknife in Untapped Potential swaps Wild Talent for Speed of Thought at 1st level, he has no need for the power points ;)

While the class abilities of the Soulknife do not require the expenditure of power points, the ability to gain and hold a psionic focus to use various psionic feats requires a current power point reserve greater than zero.

Which is one more reason why Power Leech and Psychic Vampire are not totally worthless powers in a campaign that has quite a bit of psionics in it. They will typically in a single round prevent most Soulknives from being psionically focused.

These are just mostly worthless powers. ;)

Racial Substitution Levels - like the Kalashtar Telepath in Races of Eberron, or the Shifter Druid. (Or was it Magic of Eberron?)

And he gets it earlier and gets another ability at 6th instead of Speed of thought.

As others have said, you need a power point reserve above 0 to maintain psionic focus, which is needed for several feats (and may some Soulknife abilities, not sure...). Anyway, there are creatures, spells, powers, abilities, traps, etc. that drain power points. So the more you have, the less chance you have for being reduced to 0 PP and the less chance you have to lose the ability to be Psionically Focused...

Oh, and IIRC, the class does not give you 1 Power Point. It gives you the Wild Talent feat for free, which gives you 2PP. And the purpose of the Wild Talent feat is to make you a "psionic character" so that you can take other Psionic feats.

It also makes soulknives eligible for PrCs that require a PP reserve or Wild Talent specifically. Incidentally, while a zeph doesn't get much mileage out of his reserve, an Elan, on the other hand...

The same thought occurred to me. An Elan soulknife would have a good ace-up-his-sleeve as far as staying power goes.

If the soulknife gets drained of all power points, do they lose their psiblades?

No, the mindblade is a specific feature of the Soulknife class that merely requires the wielder to have the psionic subtype. The mindblade does not require any power points in reserve to create.
