This requires a bit of explaining so bear with me.
I'd like to run a PbP using the D&D Next rules and the Spelljammer concept, but with setting assumptions a bit different from classic Spelljammer. The setting is inspired by Spelljammer, Babylon 5, and Star Trek. Each race has its own home world and contact between races is as you might imagine it to be a fantasy version of Star Trek, rather than all races mingled together on one world like most D&D settings.
The starting point of the campaign is Earth. An Earth where the ancient gods still hold sway and the magic of clerics and druids took the place of technological advancement. This Earth is thus a sort of cross between classic Greco-Roman style culture and steampunk visuals. Wizards didn't come about until about two hundred years ago and, after some conflicts, were highly regulated and controlled. Still, with wizards came the discovery of teleportation magic and, later, travel to the stars. Teleportation utilizes the Astral Plane as a means of transit. At any range within the confines of a planet, the trip is almost instantaneous. When the distance is measured in light years, however, the trip can takes days or even weeks, though still a much shorter time than traversing normal space.
The campaign itself borrows heavily from Babylon 5, with most of the adventures adapted from episodes of that series. Specifically, this introductory scenario will feature human characters who have volunteered or been conscripted into service to fight the elves after first contact with that race went disastrously bad.
We will be using the D&D Next rules from the 10/14/13 playtest packet (the last one). Races besides humans are possible, but humans are preferred. Due to the events of the campaign, elves and drow are not acceptable player characters. As characters are freshly enlisted recruits to the United Earth Space Navy, starting level is 1.
Any questions, please ask. I'll be fleshing out the setting as we play but feel free to ask about whatever.
