Stacking meta magic feats.....

Has anyone ever considered stacking meta-magic feats like silent spell, still spell, maximize, etc.? Basically, every time the same meta magic feat is selected after the first time, it reduces the spell slot by 1. eg. using empower spell requires a spell slot 2 higher than normal. by taking empower spell Twice, it only then requires a spot 1 level higher. by taking it a third time, an empowered spell could be cast in the same slot as a normal spell.

Allowing Empower for free (even at the cost of three feats) is a *bad* idea.

Allowing it for +1 level at the cost of two feats (there are a couple WotC published feats that allow this already) needs to be watched closely.

If you want MM feats with no SL adjustment, look into the Rods.

My group created a "metamagic specialist" feat that reduced the level cost by one (minimum zero), but could only be taken once per metamagic feat (so empower never goes lower than one level, maximize has a minimum of two levels, and so on). It's a bit overpowered, as Pyrex mentioned, but workable depending on your group, what books you allow, what house rules you use, etc.

That said, I like that for only two feats, a caster can have all his spells stilled or silent. Really surprises the party when an enemy caster walks up surrounded by silence and is slinging spells right and left. Even more fun if he's burned four feats and all his spells are silent and stilled. How do know he's casting spells? Perfect for an illusionist.
