too bad it isn't on the list.

I think it's fair enough... that would be a level 9 Summon. CR is in the range for level 8 or 9, but the Gargantuan size is more than summon spells generally allow, which makes it on the higher of the possble lists. And watch out for the half air elemental Dire Elephant... it flies at speed 100 (perfect)!

I prefer the R&R version myself, although S&S has mentioned on their forums that the level based abilities could be reversed, as being able to apply a special metamagic feat at 1st level to your special summoning spell you get at 2nd level wasn't quite what they had in mind.

So swap it and get the special spell at 1st level (and every odd level) and the special summoning-only metamagic at 2nd level (and every even level).
