He Who Lurks Beyond The Veil
Welcome to New York City, the city where dreams are killed and left cold on the floor. The city where darkness has a physical form and it tries to devour those foolish enough to look for it.

[sblock=Dr. Rosetti]Working for NYPD has given you a glimpse to the darker side of the city but nothing had prepared you for this. You were called to the scene of an animal attack at the mansion of a famous model Angelica Sears. The woman had been teared apart. What prompted the police to investigate further was the fact that her right leg had been cut cleanly off and left untouched. It was laying next to her when you came to the scene. The gruesome sight almost made you gag, even with all your experience, this was almost too much. As you kneel next to her you notice a bunch of "suits" walk in. One of them flashes a badge at the detective in charge, Jericho if you remember his name right, and states being from the FBI, taking ahold of the situation. He commands one of his men to stay with you and the detective as the rest of them head outside.[/sblock]
[sblock=Detective Jericho]You've seen your share of freaky stuff in the force but a third animal attack on a celebrity this month is starting to sound a bit suspicious. This time a super-model Angelica Sears, her maid had found her and phoned 911. You were put in charge of this investigation but there's not many answers to be found, only more questions. How has an animal this big been able to get into the house? Why is there no traces of any kind of animal except the claw- and bitemarks on the victim? Why is her leg laying next to her, untouched, having been cut with something clean and straight edged, nothing like claws. This last question was different from the two previous scenes though. There the women were missing an arm and the other the eyes. But those were never found. Here the leg was still there. Wondering about these questions and looking at the CSI guys do their tricks you hear steps behind you. Turning you find yourself face to face with a dozen "suits". The one in lead pulls an FBI badge on your face. He's middle aged man with a stern face and a scar running through his face. Looks like a stereotype marine, except for the badly fitting dark suit. "Special Agent Hall of the FBI. We'll be taking over here." He looks around and notices the leg. Turning to his group he issues orders. "Smith, you stay here with the detective and see that the doctor there is safe." Pointing to the forensics pathologist you had brought here. After that he takes the rest outside.[/sblock]
[Sblock=Agent Smith]You've been after this serial killer for a better half of a year now and your still no closer than anytime before. At least untill this last kill. No-one is still quite sure how these murders have been masked to look like authentic animal attacks but publicly they have been put on account of wolves and large dogs. The truth is that all of FBI attempts to regocnise the claw- and bitemarks have been futile. All of the victims have been more or less celebrities, beautifull women who have been mutilated almost unregocnisable. After the third case it became certain that this was indeed an murder-spree and not coinsidential. All the women were missing one body-part, limbs, head, eyes, ears etc... The case has taken you and a group of agents across the states. Now the last three murders have been in NYC and this very last one has gotten your superior, agent Hall excited. This may be the first time you're closer to solving the case. The model, Angelica Sears was found with her leg cut off, but the leg was still there. Meaning that the murderer had left in hurry and might still be near. With three black SUV's you came to the mansion. Hall identified you to the detective in charge and gave orders. "Smith, you stay here with the detective and see that the doctor there is safe." Pointing to the forensics pathologist that was kneeled next to the body. After that he takes the other boys and heads outside, trying to find any traces.[/sblock]

Angelina avoids looking at the body as she pulls on a set of disposable rubber gloves and snaps them around her wrists, then smears a little white dab of peppermint just under her nose and checks her watch.

"All right," she says with a forced briskness, "Agent Hall, I assume you're the lead investigator here now?" She produces a small digital audio recorder and turns it on.

"Angelica Sears house, crime scene. Time is..." she hesitates, realizing she'd forgotten her watch. "Anyone got the time?"

DJ looks at the (quite attractive) doctor and the detective. He quietly checks his pistol and his head-set. The killer could still be near and Smith wants to minimize the risks. Strange bitemarks and the other informations sound much like a psychopath, at least, the profilers said.
But screw them, this new clue, the left appendage, is something new.

"... got the time?"

"Sorry, what was your question?" he asks the forensic specialist, but concentrates more on the input from his head-set.

"Of course you'll be taking over, that's what the feds always do. Come in and pull rank and expect the rest of us to jump to like marionettes. Hey, wait a minute, What do you mean 'safe'? Hey, if there's still danger here..." Jericho lets out an exasperated sigh as the agent leaves, ignoring him. Turning to the only agent left, he stalks over "It's 12:38 AM, Doc. Now, you.. Smith, was it? I wanna know what that stiff shirt of a boss you got meant by making sure the doc was safe. I've got a dozen men around this place, plus you suits and the CSI's. The only person here who aint working this case is the vic, so what's he scared of? And if you gimme any of that 'you don't need to know' bull, I'll hold you personally responsible if somebody DOES get hurt."

Agent Smith doesn't have time to answer Jericho as shooting breaks out in the backyard. The worst to hear from police radio comes right after. "Code 13!", meaning a police is down. Suddenly something comes crashing trough the large window rolling to the floor. A huge pile of snow-white fur, smeared in blood unfurls before you to stand fully 9 ft tall. Vaguely bipedal in shape it looks like a cross of grizzly-bear and wolf, whatever it is, it is a creature from nightmares. The Big Bad Wolf of old stories, given shape by horror of all the human imagination. It looks at Rosetti kneeling before the victim and malice flashes in it's eyes. It hunches to a leap towards the doctor.

OOC: I'll be doing all the rolling myself. Just state your reactions, actions and dice-pools. Init order is:

You guys
Creature

(I don't think it really matters who of you acts in what order...)

Agent Smith, Defense:3

Reflexively, without thinking about the strangeness of this situation, DJ draws his pistol, takes a short breath and shoots at the creature.

[sblock=ooc]Shooting (Dex 3 + Firearms 3 + 1 spec + 2 equipment + 3 willpower point spend) = 12
Is my merit already included in the initiative calculation (Smith gets a +3 from his firearm ranks)

I was just about to answer Jericho's question...[/sblock]

Jericho swears and rushes to the doctor, trying to get there before the beast. Standing between her and it, he shouts "Get out of here, doc!" drawing his magnum and squeezing off a round at the giant white.. thing, aiming for its head.

[sblock=actions]
Move to directly between Rosetti and the creature, quick draw my Magnum, and fire. My speed is 11, I'm doubting she's further away than that, unless it's a HUGE room.
Dice pool: 7 [3 dexterity, 3 firearms, 1 specialty, 3 equipment(magnum) -3 Specific target(Head)]
Essentially he's trying to make himself a target to let the doc escape, and maybe take this thing down if he's lucky.

"Time is 12:38 am," Angelina says into her little recorder. "Victim is Caucasian female, age...hell."

Later, when evidence is being reviewed, it will be noted that one can hear in the background on the recording a series of gunshots at this point, followed by breaking glass. Rosetti's voice remains oddly, almost studiously calm even when she breaks off with an expletive.

At the actual crime scene, Angie freezes in place for what feels like forever as the...monster...hurls itself at her. The terror feels distant somehow, muted...as if it was happening to someone else. Her hands and feet feel cold, and the back of her mind mutters something about shock symptoms.

It was too late...too late when she feels her muscles finally start to clench and she hurls herself backwards and down in a belated attempt to avoid the oncoming creature. She was going to die, she realizes. She was going to die, and another aspiring doctor just like her would soon be here, cursing that the remains of two victims were all mixed up.

Because that really would be a pain to sort out.

(Total defense! Only have a defense of 2, sadly. :) I will spend a Willpower point to raise that...however that works.)

"Aim for the center-mass", the academy instructor's voice was in Smith's head. "Pressure on the trigger and pull." It was a good shot, the instructor would have been pleased. Only, the creature didn't even flinch as the bullet bore in it's side as it was launching towards the doctor.

The world seemed to halt in Angelina's eyes as the creature jumped forward. It was as if in the movies, the scene slowed down and she rolled to the side towards the couch to get safe. From the other side came the detective, positioning himself between her and the beast and shooting at the creature.

Jericho looked in horror as he was now straight in the pouncing beast's path. It was already mid-air when he got the revolrer up and pulled the trigger. The bullet flew straight and hit in the middle of the open mouth. You saw the blood gush between it's teeth as the beast crashed on you, hitting the air from your lungs. For a split of a second you thought it was over, you killed it. Then you feel the claws pull you up and throw you aside. After a short airborn moment you crash to the wall behind you.

It howled in pain the bullet had caused, looking hastily around the room and hearing the shouts coming from behind, the beast obviously decides to flee, it launches towards the door.

OOC: It hit's Jericho for 4 bashing damage and throws him aside. Then starts moving towards the door, getting pretty much to the door at the end of turn.

Dj

Perhaps ther ARE times for headshots, DJ thinks as he fires a second bullet, aiming for the head, before he moves to follow the creature... but he stops after a few steps. The order was to stay and protect. My temprament will kill me someday...
"Hey you, miss... doctor? Can you look after the detective?" He asks her.

[sblock=ooc]Shooting (Dex 3 + Firearms 3 + 1 spec + 2 equipment - 3 aiming for the head) = 6
Sorry for my edit, but I think this is more in-character.[/sblock]
