The Sunless Citadel (IC)

Grimror

First Post
Falariel inspects Hunolf's wound and determines that it is a very minor one, though it did pierce the skin. It currently shows no signs of infection.

As you descend down the zig-zag stairs, at the edge of sight, a fortress top emerges from the darkness. The subterranean citadel, though impressive, seems long forgotten - if the lightless windows, cracked crenellations, and leaning towers are any indication. All is quiet, though a cold breeze blows up from below, bringing with it the scent of dust and mold, as well as a faint trace of rot.

The narrow stairs empty into a small courtyard, apparently at the top of what was once a crenellated battlement. The buried citadel has sunk so far into the earth, that the battlement is now level with the surrounding cavern floor. The floor stretches away to the north and south, and it is apparently composed of a layer of treacherous crumbled masonry, which reaches to an unknown depth. To the west looms the surviving structure of what must be the Sunless Citadel. A tower stands on the west side of the courtyard.

((Sorry about that, Boddynock. Hunolf took one point of damage.))

Gamad.

We'll need to find a quiet spot within those walls I see.
He says while looking in awe at the remains of the forgotten fortress.
Gamad tries to intuit their depth below ground level, then looking on the layer of treacherous crumbled masonry he tries to spot any danger that might risk them.

Falariel

Falariel's green eyes peer ahead into the darkness. Seeing the remarkable ruined fortress come into view, she lets out a low whistle and mutters, "What could have caused devastation of this magnitude?"

Then she adds, referring to the crumbled masonry, "Be careful, Gamad, I don't like the look of that mess."

Keeping her eyes peeled, she follows at the rear of the party across the courtyard toward the tower.

Gamad determines that the rubble appears rather unstable and caution should be used while crossing. The expanse of rubble surrounds the entire citadel, and it appears there is no way around it. Gamad also determines that the party is approximately 250 feet underground.

Gamad

Be cautious … the floor is unstable, we are 250 ft. under the surface and I have a feeling that the earthquake that caused this disastrous event caused sink holes as well.
Think twice before stepping once.

He says and smiles
The last thing we need is one of us falling to the center of Oerth

"Right, careful it is."

The young man grins and adds, "Falling down holes is not my favourite pastime!"

He makes his way with suitable caution towards the tower.

The party advances carefully along the rubble without incident. As Talus steps past the last of the rubble, he halts as he takes notice of a trapdoor placed directly in front of the door leading to the tower. He demonstrates how to avoid the trap to the rest of the party, by walking along a foot wide catwalk on one side.

The old wooden door opens slowly with a creak. This circular area is cobbled with cracked granite, upon which sprawl four goblins, all aparently slain in combat. One stands with its back against the western wall, the killing spear still skewering it and holding it upright. Three wooden doors lead off from this area - one leading northwest, one leading southwest, and the one you came in through. Above, a hollow tower of loose masonry reaches 30 feet, but the intervening floors and stairs are gone, except for a couple of crumbled ledges.

Gamad

Sniffing the air around and looking at the dead skeletons of the goblins.
Watch out for goblins, those sneaky cockroaches are cunning and wicked, traps could be everywhere so watch your steps.
After seeing the trapdoor, Gamad looks around for more of this deadly mechanism, he is quite panicked about the idea to lose his life in a pit of acid or crushed by a loosely stone.

As she shuffles carefully along the catwalk edging the trapdoor, Falariel says, "Well done, Talus. No telling what sort of gruesome fate would have awaited us below."

Fala enters the round tower cautiously, circling around while looking upward for any hidden way to ascend to the tower's heights.

"Indeed." The look of disgust on Fala's face shows that she shares Gamad's contempt for the gobs.

She turns her attention to the dead goblins, trying to determine how recently they were slain, and whether there is yet anything of value upon the corpses. If it appears safe to do so, Fala pulls the spear free of the corpse pinned on the wall, to get a better look.
