The Untamed Wilds: Caravan Campaign

Merin will continue to use The Way to connect with the Lynx. He doesn't try to overpower its will; rather, he tries to impress upon it his admiration and adoration of the creature, and his genuine desire to be his friend.

When he gives the Lynx the borrowed vitals, he will allow the Lynx a respectful and polite distance while it eats, to show that he is genuine, and does not intend to take the food away, once given. After the Lynx is through eating, Merin will play with it a little, encouraging running games, and playful "slapping" games, such as domestic cats enjoy.

OOC:
Merin doesn't "over-do" it, allowing the animal periods of mental rest (for 10 or so minutes) where its mind is not being coerced by The Way. The way that Merin sees it (no pun intended), the combination of Way Charm, and natural acclimation will work together, and finally remove the need for the use of Way, other than for communication. He wants the Lynx to truly become his (and the party's) friend.

Saemund smiles, Saemund leans down hands on his knees, eye level with Sheldon's mid-section and playfully pokes Sheldon in the belly If you eat more food you may get as wide as I am tall... Saemund stands back up If you are worried about your height maybe Merin can befriend some tortoises for you to stand on.

Day 41: Hunting for the Haunted Tree, Day 6

GM: Everyone receives 2 XP for role-play through the lynx encounter.

Heavy rains during the night, delay the morning departure. as camp is being broken and supplies are being dried, another feline skirts the camp, likely attracted by the scent of butchered deer. Eyeing everything carefully, especially the other cat and the bear, this feline moves on carefully. Finding where one of the carcasses had been deposited away from camp, it grabs one and lopes away. Turtle keeps a thigh bone as a play toy. Following his lead, the lynx keeps a thigh bone also, but quickly drops it due to lack of equal interest.

A suitable place to climb the rise is located in short order and the party continues in a more easterly direction. The wood smells damp of mushrooms and new pollen after the rain. After climbing the rise and orienting to the chosen direction, everyone suddenly slows to a stop feeling something is amiss. The particular sound of calling birds becomes loud and agitated. Nothing untoward can be immediately seen.

GM: State general intentions.

Merin and Tor will both cooperatively sense danger, using Way, in the direction of the noisy birds. Merin's logic is that whatever disturbed the birds would be in their direction, else they would not have raised such a ruckus.

EDIT: Merin and Tor will also participate in searching for people, using bodies as conduits, as per Sannit's suggestion. Merin tells the lynx that there is danger near, and asks it to hide.

San-Bolo welcome and encourage the new lynx in the group. If there is time they will collect mushrooms, seeing if they can determine if any are worth eating or other medicinal value.

As to the disturbance, Sannit will suggest they do a search for other people, using their bodies for conduits. Bolo will keep her bow ready and requests that Turtle stay close.

Turtle will breath deep, trying to detect any strange scent in the air.

GM: Perception is one of the constant tasks used by all characters, which includes sensing danger. I intend to add a table to the character records to show constant tasks. Remember the number of such tasks is based on a character's health, not will.

OOC: Perception:
Range = Cohesion + Persona
Effectiveness = Essence + Mind + Cohesion + Knowledge + Persona +
Collegiate + Commercial + Aberrative + Academic + Theologic + Obscurative

Everyone senses danger. As Merin and Tor observe the noises made by the calling birds the danger appears to be directly ahead in the direction the party is traveling but, as yet, remains unseen.

GM: Merin, Tor, and Sheldon join in to extend the range. Whatever is upsetting the birds, it is not being caused by other people.

Turtle will breath deep, trying to detect any strange scent in the air.
GM: Turtle looks up at Bolo and shakes his head. He apparently does not smell anything out of the ordinary.

Sheldon nods to the others and signals the pack animals to stay. Without speaking he points at himself and Indigo, who draws her swords, and then to the left.The two, as quietly as possible and using the available shadows, intend to flank to the left.
[sblock=Stealth]Core + Motility + Confluence + Knowledge + Will + Collegiate + Commercial + Aberrative + Academic + Obscurative

Sheldon = 83 + 82 = 165
Indigo = 76 + 66 = 142[/sblock]

Seeing Sheldon and Indigo move to the left, Bolo flanks to the right, taking Turtle with her. They will move as quiet as possible.

With his spear leaning in the crook of his arm Sannit looks over the rest of the warriors and says, "Probably a big critter. Who wants to get its attention with me?"

Saemund looks at Sannit and gets a wild look in his eyes and a smile on his face, he is obviously not in a beserker rage because he is completely in charge of his faculties, but he appears eager for the fight, almost like he is going to enjoy it. He removes his throwing axes and gives them a quick kiss, first the right and then the left. I'm with you Sannit, lets give it something to stare at.
