The Untamed Wilds: Caravan Campaign

Sheldon Engages the Conversation

Sannit strokes his beard as he considers the information from their captive.
"How do we want to proceed?..."
Sheldon runs his left hand through his hair pulling it back from his face.
"I agree. I think dividing into smaller units and approaching from various sides is particularly to our advantage. If the girl's estimation is accurate, the tree should be about a 4 hours walk to the north, northeast. I think we should head due east from here for about 2 hours then north to come upon the tree from the less likely direction of the mountains. I also think we should go ahead and make camp in the hills up there, so that Saemund can fully heal and we can approach, fresh, in the morning."

After the few minutes have passed while gathering the spoils from the fallen, the Seekers collectively apply Mending to Saemund again.
[sblock=Mending]Time = 10 days[7(loss)/{353(effectiveness) + 60(roll) + 17(Saemund)}] = 3 hours, 54 minutes.[/sblock]
Indigo gathers the pack animals, and everyone prepares to move. The party travels due east for an estimate of 2 hours, crossing a smaller tributary of the Southroad Rivulet after about 1 hour where the water supply was refreshed. The party stops to allow Saemund to rest for a bit and also to attempt to identify any possible benefit for the newly discovered talismans.

Red Stone = 12 days / (396 + 53) = 38 minutes, 29 seconds
Raccoon Skull = 12 days / (396 + 83) = 36 minutes, 5 seconds[/sblock]
GM: The Vulture Skull, Red Stone, and Raccoon Skull are identified later at the evening camp due to desired time constraints. In addition to determining the particular way affinity of the items, the Seekers also discover that due to their newly developing diversity, the intensity of each item's augmentation or boost varies per individual.

Bolo and Indigo are best suited to feather and hair talismans or stones. Merin and Tor are best suited to skins and chitinous material or bones. Sheldon is best suited to metals. Neither Sannit nor Saemund show any particular leaning, yet.

As they travel San-Bolo will gather materials best suited to camouflage to aid in their plan. Later at camp they will weave suits to aid in stealth for themselves and Turtle if possible.

Turtle looks for something to eat, but Bolo keeps him from wandering far.

OOC: Sannit will go for metals.

Merin and Tor will help. Tor is especially keen on the idea. Tor also has the thought that once everyone closes for melee combat, the suits might add some factor of intimidation.

OOC: Merin and Tor receive 1 XP for humor.

While collecting materials to help disguise one's present is reasonable and wise, it is not possible to make a ghillie suit, nor would any character even be able to fathom such an endeavor.

The terrain changes markedly as the Seekers continue on until their designated stopping time. The pines are replaced by cedars, the land becomes more hilly, and more undergrowth develops. Turtle pauses to forage some juniper berries for a bit before Bolo signals him to move on. As a convenience for the desired stopping point, a very small stream runs east to west providing fresh water. It is suspected that this will be the same or connect with the other tributary crossed earlier in the day.

Sheldon indicates,
"I would like to have the aluminum ingot as I carry nothing, yet, to augment motility. Sannit, I will, also, assist you in searching for metals We should also search for carbone and pietrazulfo but from the indications of our developing abilities, Bolo and Indigo would be best suited to find those."

Indigo makes sure the pack animals are watered and then states openly,
"I am going to make a cursory scout of our surroundings, if anyone want to join me."

GM: Saemund will fully heal shortly after sunset.

Aluminum = 15 days / (111 + 100 + 71) = 1 hour, 17 minutes.[/sblock]
GM: Traveling in close proximity, Sannit and Sheldon begin by searching for zinc. After a few minutes, the gather 7 ingots of zinc. Next, they choose iron which requires a little over half an hour, discovering a lode of iron, not nearly as large as previously discovered but probably worth noting. Next they move on to copper, disappointed to search for over an hour only to discover 1 ingot. It becomes dark after this and they are forced to return to camp, unable to complete searching for aluminum or any rarer metals.

OOC: New Items Collected:
Location of an Iron Lode
7 Zinc Ingots
1 Copper Ingot

Besides searching for carbone and pietrazulfo, Merin will also inquire to Indigo as to which plants might produce dark pigments, so that when we perform the ambush, we can have our faces and exposed skin covered in dark brown and dark green pigments, making us more difficult to see.

P.S. Merin and Myth will accompany Indigo on the cursory scout.

Besides searching for carbone and pietrazulfo, Merin will also inquire to Indigo as to which plants might produce dark pigments...
Indigo agrees and she, Merin, and Myth begin a circuitous route. While they travel, Indigo points out various plants. The two also link to search for carbone and pietrazulfo.

Indigo laughs at Merin's inquiry,
"Ha. My skin is dark enough. Many of these herbaceous plants can be used to make green dye, like that prickly-pear cactus, but green is not the best choice of color. Brown would be. Black would be a second choice. We can almost dye the skin black using the berries or grapes that grow all in the pines. Either would stain the skin for a day or two. The only ones of us who really stand out are Sheldon, Tor, and Saemund."

GM: No threats or hazards are discovered during the search.

Pietrazulfo = 25 days / (111 + 100 + 94 + 85) = 1 hour, 32 minutes.[/sblock]
GM: Traveling within 16 paces of one another, Merin and Indigo begin divining for carbone as they scout the area. They are able to locate a single brick of carbone after about 20 minutes of travel. With a bit of luck, they are able to hone in on pietrazulfo in just over an hour and a half, discovering a single brick worth of it as well.

San-Bolo stay close to camp while the others scout, but they do play hide and go seek to test their sneaking skills. Since they know people can be detected using Way, Sannit and Bolo take turns hiding and trying to find each other using only Way. They hope to both increase their effectiveness at finding others and also determine how best to hide from someone trying to find them.

Turtle hangs out with Saemund while the man rests. It was a good time for a nap anyway.

OOC: i'm capitalizing Way from now on to avoid confusion.

As Myth is returning from the precursory scout, he spies Saemund and Turtle piled up on Saemund's blanket, taking a snooze.

In true cat fashion, he wanders over, finds a comfortable position between the two, with his rear-end in close proximity to Turtle's face, settles in, and begins to purr contentedly as he joins in on the fun.

OOC: No offense, just trying to be realistic. Cats do inconsiderate things like that!

GM: Smelling some rank funk as he dozes, Turtle rolls over not wanting to wake, in hopes of finding fresher air, nearly squishing Myth. Unperturbed, the cat rises and wanders over to where Merin is sleeping and promptly plops down on his chest.

Startled momentarily, Merin spouts,

"Go climb a tree!"

which Myth promptly does.
