Now, why didn't Rick and the gang at the prison go to Woodbury? They have power, albeit a limited amount, including hot water. They have real buildings with real beds in them.

And a long, long wall that needs to be continuously guarded, and everyone in Woodbury capable of using a gun effectively is *DEAD*.

Yes - the prison needs to be continuously guarded as well - plus, has known breeches in the walls and in the tombs. And, it has woods around there where you can pick Axel off with a sniper rifle without fear of reprisal. At least the residents of Woodbury can go about their daily lives without that threat. Sure, the governor knows the places, but it's small and I'm sure can be sealed up better.

Yes - the prison needs to be continuously guarded as well - plus, has known breeches in the walls and in the tombs.

The prison has already proven that it can be guarded by the people in Rick's group - it has prison doors you can lock between you and walkers. Having cleared a section, they've had no zombie incursions into the living space that were not instigated by a human being.
