Day 215: Heading to Boga City

OutpostMap.jpg

GM: Having everything gathered and ready, horses in tow, the crew decides to depart first thing in the morning. Richelle comes to see them off, giving all the young men a hug and a farewell.

[sblock=Active Awareness While Traveling]Hunting:
Effectiveness:
  • Empathy (Divination Task) +
  • Mind + Knowledge +
  • Commercial
This active task is applied to finding and identifying animals or people by their passage. The specificity of the information known is determined by the rarity of the creature.
Raven Elk: 17(empathy) + 14(hunting) + 53(d100) = 84
Maka: 15(empathy) + 14(hunting) + 76(d100) = 105
Vittero: 16(empathy) + 16(hunting) + 91(d100) + 50(luck) = 173
Taylar: 15(empathy) + 14(hunting) + 61(d100) = 90
Adisakti: 10(empathy) + 22(hunting) + 98(d100) + 60(luck) = 180[/sblock]
Day 215:
The day begins hot and perfectly calm. The crew is immediately grateful for the extra waterskins. The day proves easy travel, following the roadway. Raven Elk and Taylar are a bit preoccupied with the new travel and only notice the common birds, insects, and lizards. Maka, at one point, thinks he has located a varmint trail crossing the road. After following it for a bit, he returns to the crew having shot a rabbit. Vittero, with a bit of luck, notices another varmint trail, but after following it for a short distance comes upon long discarded remains of several varmints. He informs the others of his find and conveys that he thinks some animal that is hunting these varmints must be hidden close by. Adisakti, also with a bit of luck, finds another path belonging to, what appears to be, a larger varmint, something about twice the size of the rabbit Maka shot.

When it is discovered, Vittero asks,
"Anyone want to investigate this varmint kill zone?"

Later when Adisakti mentions the path he located, Vittero asks,
"Anyone else want to look into this? That one little rabbit is not much meat."

OOC: At this point, the most significant factor in encounter results is luck. Make posts concerning any specific desires for the discoveries or any unmentioned daily activity. If no activity is desired, simply comment "move on" in LINE chat.

OOC: Standard travel over road or plains is 10 hours a day. At this pace, it will take the crew 10 days, or 100 hours to reach Boga City. A small caravan only travels 8 hours a day, which would take 12 and a half days to cover the same distance.
A forced march is 12 hours a day, which would take 8 and a 1/3 days to cover the distance but risks a 10% chance of injury to people and animals.
A driving march is 14 hours a day, which would take just over 7 days to cover the distance but risks a 20% chance of injury to people and animals.

Excited to be on the move again, Adi runs home and fills his folks in on what's going on, grabs a few items and leaves them by the door so he can leave quickly in the morning. He joins his friends at the outskirts of the city, A stupid grin on his face as if they were going on some grand adventure. He attempts to walk with more purpose the way a grown up would, trying to live up to what he believes are his father's expectations. He won't be able to keep up the charade long.

He did not even suggest entering the city.

Shock comes over Taylar's face and he says, "Well we're not going to go all that way and not even go into the city are we? I had considered going into Boga a bright side to this journey."
"Anyone want to investigate this varmint kill zone?"

Taylar nods. "Yes. There might be some bones we can use. Let's see what this creature is."

Maka nods, "The bigger critter will probably provide much more meat for our campfire. Let's go track it down."

Without even waiting for the others to reply, Maka starts trying to follow whatever good tracks he can find.

Always up for some good fun, and never one to turn down some hunting, Adi jogs to catch up to Maka. He catches up to Maka and says You didn't think I was going to let you have all the fun by yourself did you? I'll walk off the trail a bit so we can flank whatever this is. Adi begins to manipulate way to make himself more silent, more deadly, and less likely to be noticed. As he is moving along he notices that certain parts of him stand out. So he starts picking up fallen twigs that still have leaves and places them anywhere in his clothes they will stay put.

Day 215: Taylar and Vittero

Taylar nods.
"Yes. There might be some bones we can use. Let's see what this creature is."
GM: Taylar and Vittero follow the particular trail off into the grasses on the northward side of the road. At about 10 paces distance, Taylar sees the small bones that originally caught Vittero's attention. The two begin to investigate the site more carefully. Each finds bones of rabbits and rodents. After about 15 minutes of disappointing examination of bones, Taylar discovers a whole shriveled corpse of a ground squirrel. It looks mummified. While looking at the item together, Vittero notices a dome of grass folded over a small rolling dip in the terrain. The opening is about twice the size of a man's head and appears to have been made by some animal, not a person. When Vittero begins to approach the discovery, Taylar notices a second one off to the left of the first.

Vittero knocks an arrow to his bow and stoops to try to see inside the opening.
GM: Oops...

[sblock=Order of Attack]Vittero: 16(empathy) + 16(observation) + 100(d100) + 94(luck) = 226
Taylar: 15(empathy) + 14(observation) + 76(d100) = 105
Spiders: 33(stealth) + 80(d100) = 113[/sblock]
GM: By a complete stroke of luck, Vittero notices the ambushing spider before it launches its attack, but the one closer to Taylar surprises him.

[sblock=Effectiveness of Attack]Spider: 36(precision) + 20(attack) + 90(d100) = 146
Taylar: 14(konokoro) + 14(preservation) + 93(d100) + 64(luck) = 185[/sblock]
GM: Luck is on Taylar's side his spider rushes forward. Taylar turns just in time to see the assault and dodges the spider.

[sblock=Effectiveness of Attack]Vittero: 16(clarity) + 16(precision) + 73(d100) = 105
Spider: 34(preservation) + 73(d100) = 107[/sblock]
GM: Vittero quickly releases the arrow that he had at the ready but narrowly misses the fast moving spider.

Vittero exclaims, "Ah!"

OOC: The rest of the crews hears Vittero's exclamation and should post desired reaction. Remember all other members are currently on the road about 10 paces from the attack. (~60')

@Kwargrow
Taylar is up.

Adi hears Vittero's exclamation and rushes in that direction with haste. As he runs, he thinks to himself ~~These fellows would get themselves killed if it weren't for me.~~ He files that thought away for later use as a friendly jibe.

Taylar shouts, "Damn spider!", as he attempts to jab the iron shod end of his granbaton into the creature's face. He will attempt to position himself closer to Vittero so they cannot get attacked from behind.

Day 215: Raven Elk

Raven Elk, hearing Vittero's cry, races toward his fellows, spear and shield at the ready.
GM: Taylar and Vittero can be seen standing above the waist high grasses, but whatever has startled them cannot yet be observed. Raven Elk takes off at a dead run; but as of yet, he is not very quick on his feet. It will take 5 seconds to cover the distance.
