Merin will keep one of the Mink skulls, adding it to his hair band. He will distribute the other 3 to the rest of the party members, unless no one wants them. If no one else has proclivity with them / wants them, he will keep the other three in his belt pouch, for use as augmentation for Way Manipulation.
GM: As it turns out, the Fisher Claws that Merin is carrying demonstrate a greater proclivity for the augmentation of Adhesion than the Mink Skulls, which means that the skull can be used during the active manipulation of Way without concern for their loss.

Tellerian Hawke said:
Tor will help prepare any Tapirs or other animals that the party ends up killing for food. Merin will look for stones and minerals as the party travels. Merin will help forage when needed.
Day 229:
The party encounters a small pod of tapirs.
Sheldon, though he has expressed more interest in collecting chitin to facilitate the trade in Southroad Fair, also sees the value in fresh meat and readily available skins. He assist in the taking and preparing of game.
GM: Tor and Sheldon are each able to acquire one of the pig-like animals.

Effectiveness:
  • Empathy (Divination Task) +
  • Mind + Knowledge ++
  • Commercial + Mercantile
This active task is applied to cleaning and dissecting animals to preserve their useful parts. Generally the collection of meat is a given. This task is more specifically used when collecting hides, glands, and particular organs. (Effectiveness + d100 - difficulty = % collected).
Tor: 29(empathy) + 30(butcher) + 71(d100) - 40(simple) = 90
Sheldon: 34(empathy) + 35(butcher) + 73(d100) - 40(simple) = 102[/sblock]
GM: Tor collects one skin (27% cover) and 27 bricks of meat. Sheldon collects one skin (30% cover) and 30 bricks of meat.

[sblock=Mining]Effectiveness:

  • Konokoro (Divination Task) +
  • Mind + Knowledge ++

This active task is applied to the search for usable metal or stone.
Merin: 33(konokoro) + 31(mining) + 91(d100) + 84(luck) = 239[/sblock]
GM: Merin finds an ingot of an unknown metal (strontium) late in the day.

[sblock=Metallurgy]Effectiveness:

  • Konokoro (Divination Task) +
  • Mind + Knowledge ++
  • Commercial + Mercantile
Time = 1 week * complexity / (Effectiveness + d100)
This active task is applied to the identification of various metals and their strengths. It is also applied to the manufacture and identification of alloys. The result of the effectiveness of this task is determined by the rarity of the metal as translated by the GM.
Merin: 33(konokoro) + 31(metallurgy) = 64
Time: 1 week * 8 / (64 + 76(d100)) = 9 hours, 36 minutes[/sblock]
GM: After several hours of meditation / concentration, Merin decides to try to identify the ingot at a later date, having made no progress at this juncture.

Day 230:
[sblock=Mining]Merin: 33 + 31 + 90(d100) = 154[/sblock]
GM: Merin discovers a rock containing 9 ingots worth of iron.

Tellerian Hawke said:
When the Jaguar is encountered, Merin asks Indigo if perhaps she shouldn't try to befriend it?
Tor nods in agreement; he also thinks that befriending the Jaguar is a good idea.
Indigo thanks them for the consideration but declines. She is content to look after the extra horses, explaining that she does not intend to focus her talent directly toward working with animals.
Tellerian Hawke said:
Both Merin and Tor will stay alert (Observation) during the party's travels.

He never has liked heat too much. Vadin says to Merin, "...You seem to be good at burning foes, would you be able to cool someone off, perhaps me?" He gives a little chuckle to himself. The thought of him being cooled off pleases him.

Strange as it might seem, although Merin has started countless campfires using The Way, and has burned many opponents, he has never once tried to use Thermal manipulation to regulate his own body temperature, or that of someone else.

As he is walking, Merin tries to cool himself off using Thermal manipulation. ~If it works, I will try it on Vadin. But I should be the first test subject, merely for the sake of politeness.~
GM: Merin realizes that while he can regulate his own temperature, doing so can actually be harmful as he is interfering with his own natural balance of heat rather than altering his perception of external heat. Also, he realizes that attempting this on another would be disastrous.

Days 229 - 235: Vadin

As they are traveling Vadin becomes more and more uncomfortable. He never has liked heat too much. Vadin says to Merin, "you seem to be good at burning foes, would you be able to cool someone off, perhaps me?" He gives a little chuckle to himself. The thought of him being cooled off pleases him.

When they are stopped Vadin will go hunting for animals around them, by identifying tracks and following them. While hunting he will attempt to better his ability to move quietly about his surroundings.
GM: Merin laughs at Vadin's suggestion, knowing that he is not fully serious. He conveys that that kind of control would be risky. He might just kill him with hypothermia, instead.

Days 229 - 235: San-Bolo

Bolo will study the feather talismans, and Sannit will study the stones. San-Bolo believe they should still collect carapaces from the insects they found.

To keep her mind off the spiders, Bolo will study the animal and plant life, marking any new breeds she discovers.

Sannit will periodically search for minerals and metals.
[sblock=Alchemy]Effectiveness:
  • Konokoro (Divination Task) +
  • Mind + Knowledge ++
  • Commercial + Mercantile
Time = 1 week * complexity / (Effectiveness + d100)
This active task is applied to the identification of various bones, feathers, and hair to determine any medicinal or mystical use. The result of the effectiveness of this task is determined by the rarity of the mineral as translated by the GM.
Bolo: 28(konokoro) + 34(alchemy) = 62
Time: 1 week * 4 / (62 + 86(d100)) = 4 hours, 32 minutes
Time: 1 week * 8 / (62 + 86(d100)) = 9 hours, 5 minutes
Time: 1 week * 32 / (62 + 86(d100)) = 1 day, 12 hours
Time: 1 week * 8 / (62 + 86(d100)) = 9 hours, 5 minutes
Time: 1 week * 4 / (62 + 86(d100)) = 4 hours, 32 minutes[/sblock]
GM: Four of the 8 talismans appear to be the same type of feathers. Bolo discovers these to have belonged to a jungle species of flycatcher and that the feathers augment the motility of the bearer. Also she determines that they are much more potent than the green stone she currently carries. One of the talismans contains vulture feathers which augment the instillation of life (Adhesion) in the bearer. One of the talismans contains the feathers of a Painted Gallinule, which she determines augments the health and confluence of the bearer, simultaneously. One of the talismans contains the tail feathers of an Anhinga, which augments the health and strength of the bearer, simultaneously. The last talisman she is unable to determine.

OOC: New Collections:

  • Flycatcher Talisman: 4 (Augment Motility)
  • Vulture Talisman: 1 (Augment Adhesion)
  • Painted Gallinule Talisman: 1 (Augments Health + Confluence)
  • Anhinga Talisman: 1 (Augments Health + Strength)
  • Unknown Talisman: 1

[sblock=Mineralogy]Effectiveness:

  • Konokoro (Divination Task) +
  • Mind + Knowledge ++
  • Commercial + Mercantile
Time = 1 week * complexity / (Effectiveness + d100)
This active task is applied to the identification of various stones and crystals. The result of the effectiveness of this task is determined by the rarity of the mineral as translated by the GM.
Sannit: 33(konokoro) + 33(mineralogy) = 66
Time: 1 week / (66 + 65(d100)) = 1 hour, 17 minutes
Time: 1 week * 2 / (66 + 65(d100)) = 2 hours, 34 minutes[/sblock]
GM: Sannit is able to group the similar stones before attempting to analyze them. He learns that 4 are bloodstones, which augment health, 3 are sunstones, which augment persona, 2 are heartstones, which augment confluence, 2 are emberstones, which augment cohesion, and 1 is a livestone which augments strength.

OOC: New Collections:

  • Bloodstone: 4 (Augments Health, Mend x2)

[sblock=Mining]Sannit: 33(konokoro) + 33(mining) + 53(d100) = 119[/sblock]
GM: Despite his efforts, Sannit discovers nothing more than what Merin picks up.

Day 230:
GM: The proficiency of Sannit, Bolo, and Sheldon will allow them, each, to successfully collect the carapaces of encountered beetles. The elytra from 3 reddish beetles are collected. Despite his efforts Sannit is unable to discover any mineral different from Merin

Day 231:
GM: The elytra from 3 yellow beetles are collected. Sannit discovers an ingot of iron.

During the time in the jungle San-Bolo meditate on how to control their sweating with Way. The heat is bearable, but do not like the dampness they perpetually find themselves in. They also seek to control their scent, possibly by eliminating sweating, but will also seek other techniques. Their smell can identify them as well as sight to the right creatures.

Bolo will swap out the green stone with the flycatcher talisman.

Sannit will experiment with their collections to see if there are any upgrades for him.

OOC: Saemund walks apart from his friends, and mostly in silence.

Having his spent his formative years in the Caravan he has never witnessed such depravity as the cannibalism of a child. He is not sad for the child, only angered. He hopes that the child died quickly...He joined the Seekers to find adventure, and he has found it, but the image of the child on a spit like a pig has had an unprecedented effect on him, he finds that he has developed a dislike for unnecessary violence, where before we relished the idea of getting into a brawl, combat has lost its romance.

~~What is the nature of life? It is quite fleeting isn't it? We are born, we live...to what purpose? Surely there is a reason for our existence other than to consume and procreate. People, regardless of race or creed are simply attempting to survive and create the best life for themselves and their loved ones. Who am I to deprive someone of that ability? Is it not in the interest of everyone to allow men to live the lives they see fit as long as it does not impede their ability to conduct their affairs as they believe they should, as long as it don't not hinder someone else of the same?~~

His mind wanders back to the group's encounter with the Mhytre, and how he was able to use mental manipulation to induce fear in his foe causing him to flee.

That particular incident ended without violence, the man was able to eventually return to his life, although some others were not so lucky. But surely there are some who must be put down for the good of everyone else. Those who wish to harm others, to cheat others, tyrants, those who keep ordinary people making the best of their life, but who makes that determination? Who decides what is evil and who is a tyrant? Would someone look at my actions and judge me a tyrant or murderer?

Saemund removes his axe from its loop and handles it, he examines the wicked looking spike and the half moon blade. He turns it over in his hand...Such potential for destruction, the ability to take a life, does this axe give me more power than any man should wield? Such is a decision for every man to make I suppose. He looks at his friends, moving along with purpose, apparently not bothered by the wrong or right of the last several weeks. Their consciences apparently clear. This axe, such power...Saemund returns it to its loop. My axe is but a tool, by itself it is neutral, a tool for good or evil depending on who holds it. Saemund begins to form a set of rules for himself, to govern his use of the axe, of the ability to spare or take life.

With the image of the woman whose throat he cut in apparent justice in mind, Saemund comes to several conclusions to appease his own conscience. I will begin every violent encounter with an attempt to turn my foe using Way so that their life is not taken by my hand, I will not deprive another person of life. My first action will be to incapacitate. If I must take a life it will be taken in self defense or in the defense of the defenseless, but my first point still stands. My conclusions are my own, and I will not attempt to hold another to them.

When he finally comes out of his introspection Saemund is in a much better mood. Although his wound still rankles him.

He addresses the group... If no one objects I would like to add the sunstone to my collection.

Day 235: San-Bolo and Turtle

During the time in the jungle San-Bolo meditate on how to control their sweating with Way. The heat is bearable, but do not like the dampness they perpetually find themselves in. They also seek to control their scent, possibly by eliminating sweating, but will also seek other techniques. Their smell can identify them as well as sight to the right creatures.
OOC: NOTE: If a person stops sweating when it is hot, they die of heat stroke, but this is a game and I am often overly technical.

GM: What actually comes to mind for the party members as they discuss the oppressive heat is that an occasional breeze would likely be helpful, since the movement of air would evaporate some of the sweat and pull moisture from damp clothing.

Merin hits upon it first since he has the greatest skill at manipulating mechanical Way. Instead of pushing air like he would to shove an opponent away from him, he decides to pull it which draws the air toward him and moves it on beyond. While Merin can move enough air to cool the entire party, each other person has enough skill to move air individually. Care, however, is taken as to not perform this task too often, which can cause fatigue, in case danger is encountered.

Day 235: Saemund

Saemund walks apart from his friends, and mostly in silence...
GM: The others cannot know what thought are currently plaguing the mind of their friend, but they can all sense the introspection.

Seeing Saemund take his axe and look at it while he is thinking provokes some thoughts for Sheldon. Indigo never alters the placid expression on her pretty face. For her, everything seems a yes or a no. She performs every act with little to no deliberation, as if the rightness of her act is assured.

Sheldon runs his left hand through his hair pulling it back from his face.
~I can imagine the conundrum that must be infecting Saemund. What separates us from them? I am sure it is not specifically those Katalians. Anyone who would consume the flesh of another person is a monster. No consideration needed, there. But this repose does bring needed reflection.

I have no doubt as to the malevolence of Suausedeserp, but we must take care in our actions to depose such a despot for we as conquerors could be perceived as supplanting violence for violence. I am resolved to see to this current endeavor of recruitment with as little force or manipulation of Way lines as possible. Afterall, it must be that those who do not wish help cannot be helped
