Brokkus: Dwarf Cleric1 of Obad-Hai

Brokkus pulls up short as he rounds the corner, then carefully walks forward, his open hands held palm-up away from his body.

"Friends," he addresses the group, "perhaps a man of the cloth can help mediate here."

Then he hears the sounds of a mob approaching. He closes his eyes and heaves a great sigh. Don't let this be as bad as it sounds, he thinks to himself.

Toskar's boots splashed heavily through the puddles in the street as he closed in on the bald dwarf, as well others who had came to investigate the noise.

'Wonder if the whole town heard it?'

Pausing for a moment to catch his breath, Toskar saw the bald dwarf hold his hands up, axe still clutched in it, near the man at the end of the alley, but couldn't fully hear what the dwarf was saying.

'Either that guy against the wall owes them money, or he is getting robbed....'

As he took a step closer to try to hear what was going on around him, Toskar suddenly heard what sounded like a mob charging from behind him. Spinning around quickly, he looked to see how many people were following him and where they were coming from.

"What's done on a public street is public business," Meg replies calmly. "But we need not quarrel. You have made your point; leave now and injure him no more."

"Just be glad our business ain't with you, girl!" snarls the lookout.

"They went this way, into the alley," Binkle cries. Then, closing his eyes, he utters more quietly, "Imnish arish magish," as he rolls the wax and wool together and tosses it into the air.

(ooc: casts Ghost Sound)

The sound of marching feet echoes towards the alley. "Let's get 'em, boys," a harsh voice orders. Other voices, rough and angry, laugh excitedly as they follow. The ring of drawn steel rolls through the mist.

With the assembly of five people already at the alley's mouth, and the sounds of more on the way, the thugs give a final shove to their victim, and begin to back away towards the opposite end of the alley. As the intensity of the rain lessens slightly, the thugs' faces become more visible. They all have their faces painted half-white, half-black, like a crude harlequin's mask.

Eldar turns his head and regards the woman strangely, he doubts that her words are going to make the men leave but it was worth a shot. When he hears the "noise" he will stand closer to the wall attempting to hide himself in the shadows

Eldar's presence is already known to the current occupants of the alley, but he presses against the wall, seeking to avoid notice by any newcomers. [Hide Check: 17].

One of the thugs snickers at Brokkus' comment, but it's not immediately clear why it's so funny. They continue to back away from the victim of their assault, short swords in hand.

Oddly enough, despite the clear sound of people running and shouting, Toskar sees absolutely no one behind him. After a few more moments, the noise fades away.

The thugs pause warily at the opposite end of the alley, their short swords at the ready. One shouts, "Get out of here, now! This is your last warning!"

The victim of their assault, meanwhile, begins to stumble away from where the thugs were beating on him. He moves towards the PCs at the alley's mouth, seemingly grateful for the rescue they represent.

As the noise continued for the span of several heartbeats, Toskar wondered who summoned the phantom noise and cursed himself for getting distracted by it when the others around him seemed to have ignored it.

'Could one of those brigands be a caster?'

Stepping slightly closer, Toskar studied them all closely watching them as he would a drunkard in the bar. While many looked down on what he did, as some considered him nothing more than a hired thug, Toskar had began to realize that everyone's body language was basically the same once you knew where to look.

'They have backed up a few steps, but their swords are still drawn. The question is do they really want to use them.'

While he heard bits of the man's shout, Toskar couldn't make out everything the man said cursed silently to himself once more.

'I need to be closer if all their going to do is yap their jaws now that they aren't in control of the situation.'

Advancing forward once more, Toskar kept an eye on the trio looking trying to determine if the trio still wanted to use their blades, or if they were merely seeking to save face before they ran.

Get out of here now. That doesn't seem a bad idea, thinks Binkle as he nervously pulls at the braids on his chin. He only caught a glimpse of the attacker's strangely painted faces before ducking back behind the wall at the opposite end of the alley. But that was enough to chill his bones. 'Tis a strange world you've come to, Binkle Tinkerdink, he thought. Thankfully, the "painted one's" had moved away, but now their victim drew near. What to do...what to do?

His initial spell faded away, but perhaps another would do the trick. "Tripudio adustum" he whispered the familiar words, tracing runes in the air.

[sblock]cast dancing lights[/sblock]

Four lantern lights appear through the fog, starting about 30 feet away and moving slowly forward toward the entrance to the alley.

"Here. Quickly." Meg moves a few steps forward, holding one hand out to the victim. "I see they will not be reasoned with." She ignores the goings-on behind her; if they are friends, well and good. If enemies, they will be dealt with when they come.

[Sense Motive Check: 19] Toskar puts his practiced people-watching skills to work. He gets the vibe that the thugs are prepared to defend themselves, but don't really want this fight. Still, they do seem to be waiting around for something. And, (as if their threats weren't an obvious signal), they really seem to want you to leave.

Clarification request: Are the Dancing Lights moving toward the party, or toward the thugs?

Watching the trio, Toskar noticed the quick glances they passed to each other, as if seeking reassurance from each other, and knew that this was not what they had planned on happening.

'The rats didn't expect the cheese to call for help...'

As the thug's victim came to stand beside one of the others who were in the alley with him, Toskar knew it was time for the situation to end and he called out to everyone in the alley.

"Ye spoke yer piece with this man and we'll be escorting him out now. Since ye've had the sense to keep blood from wetting yer blade, I'll count to fifty before I summon the watch."

Looking over to the woman, Toskar nodded his head slightly to the back and side to get the woman moving.

'Just like in a bar...slow steps and stay calm...'

"She is brave I will give her that." He thinks to himself as he quietly joins her in case the muggers decide to do something rash.
