Weapons of the Hundred Hands

First Post
So I'm running a Campaign via IRC that is a low-magic e6 Pathfinder campaign... And one of the things I've been playing with is the series of weapons related to the Hundred Hands. If you read the GSG thread with some of its history you'll see that the founder of two large Empires came from a culture controlled by a magocracy. In keeping with this theme I have begun writing up the Weapons of the Hundred Hands. These hundred (!) unique magic items will be weapons pilfered, rewarded, or otherwise obtained by the leaders of the hundred thousand warriors who came Across to Legendfall.

So I've decided to start actually posting a few of these weapons in this forum. I figure they will serve as nicely flavored weapons for campaigns from 1-9th that have powers that are a bit unique and could be useful. In essence these items are going to be the artifact weapons of the campaign, but will probably be a bit 'weak' for such things for most of your 'epic' level campaigns :). The weapons will also include 'degraded' versions, as the magic of the world has 'moved on' and some weapons may be found in a weakened condition from their original form. We use different languages and their alphabets for each culture, so each entry will be indicated with its 'unique' name, and then the name it is known by in Common.

We'll start with three:

นายพราน, or Huntsman
Description: This short sword is oddly balanced, almost as if made for a child. The scabbard is a very finely-grained leather that is covered in pastoral scenes of animals of the field. The blade is etched with a scene of men in noble dress. The guard is round, bearing the symbol of a fox being chased (or chasing) a hound, each with the other's tail in their mouth, while the hilt bears silver wrappings and small charms of a bird, a bear, and a hare.

Provenance: The item, once a ceremonial sword for the Prince of Ostaria, was found upon the Prince's body when the Royal family's grave was discovered. The weapon's full powers were only discovered twenty years After the Voyage when the item was granted to a Marsein outrider whose horse seemed to gain more intelligence than its owner. The item was reported lost at sea over half a century ago, but may be found anywhere along the ship's original voyage.

Abilities: +1 Short Sword of Animal Bane, allowing to cast Calm Animals 3/day. The Scabbard, when worn by an creature with the Animal type, Awakens the animal until the item is removed. Only one animal may gain the power of this ability at a time. If worn by a Ranger's Animal Companion the effective level of the Animal Companion increases to that of a Druid of the character's Ranger level.

Degraded: +1 Sword Short, reduce Calm Animals to 1/day. Scabbard's abilities reduced to either Awaken, or Companion boost reduces to Druid -2.

ความลับเลดี้ or Lady's Secret

Description: A tasteful clutch purse embroidered in gold-thread has a ivory hoop hanging as a grip. This hoop is etched with an two beautiful nude women draped in cloth that changes from ivory to black as it twisted between their outstretched fingers. Though the sounds of jingling can be heard from within, the purse can be flipped inside and out without emptying.

Provenance: The last-ditch safety net of the Dowager Empress of Ostaria, Lady's Secret was passed down from daughter to mother in secret for over twenty generations of the Ostarian Dynasties. Bearing an erotic image of the two Daughters of the Sun (Dusk and Dawn, Palde M'ka and M'ta), it was originally a gift from the Fifth Emperor to his eldest niece upon her ascension to the seat of Protectress of Seaside. A woman of martial skill frowned upon for her manners at court, the item was to grant her a 'grace' she lacked, though later enhancements make it the item it is today.

The bag was last seen as part of a ransom granted to the Paldo Empire from the Marseins for the return of a critical sea passage near the Northwestern Straits of the Horn.

Abilities: This item grants a +5 bonus to Diplomacy when wielded by a female bearer. The purse can be wielded as a sap, and seems strangely right for the job, providing a +2 to hits with the weapon. It's greatest gift, however, is its hungry maw ability. Whenever gems are placed into the item it becomes weighed with their full weight, making it a more effective sap. For every 2000 GP of gems placed within the bag the item gains a size category of damage, up to 3d6 at its greatest. These gems disappear
into the bag, only able to be removed in 3000 GP amounts by the person who placed the gems.

If the item changes hands this effect must be repeated by the new bearer, and if even a single stone is placed within the bag by another all gems are lost. The item also removes all gold, silver, and platinum placed into the bag, but these items are lost into the maw of the bag unless the specific phrase to retrieve them is repeated. The command word for this function has been forgotten to the ages. If the bag is somehow destroyed all items within are lost.

Degraded: The purse's Maw effect permanently devours all gems placed within and degrades to 5000 GP/size to a maximum of 2d6. The cloth degrades first, and if completely lost allows the grip to be used as a Bracelet of Diplomacy +5.

ฟันของสุนัข or Hound's Tooth

Description: The dagger's copper handle mimics a hound's howling visage, with two small tourmaline serving as the eye. When drawn from its simple rough cowhide sheath the wielder feels the grip thrum with power, and a strange wave of loyalty.

Provenance: The copper-wrapped sheath hides its true material; the carved hipbone of a canine. Said to contain the spirit of a general's greatest hound, the blade has passed among assassins and bodyguards by nobleman who enjoy the attitude change and results gained by the blade.

Abilities: This dagger is treated as a Blessed Weapon able to bypass DR x/evil. The Tooth has a morphic ability, and once it tastes the blood of an enemy wishing its wielder harm gains the lesser bane ability associated with that creature (+1 to hit, 1d6 damage).

Employers enjoy the weapon for its ability to make its wielder docile. Every time the blade uses its morphic lesser bane ability, the wielder must make a Will save (DC: 13 + 1 per use within a month) or become unerringly loyal to anyone in command of the wielder. The wielder will put their "Master's" needs before their own, listening intently to their Master and accepting any instructions without question. This ability is treated as Charm Monster and any creature which would be immune to such an effect would be immune to this power.

Degraded: The copper handle has cracked, showing some of the bone beneath. The Will Save DC increases to (17 + 2), and the wielder becomes completely obsessed with its Master, to the point of fanaticism. Treat this ability as Dominate Person (CL 7).

Hope you enjoy the items :).

แองเจิลป่นปี้, Shattering Angel.

Description: The sword's copper blade is shaped in a natural curvature similar to a blade of grass. All edges are sharp, while the hilt is made up of rich red leather. A fine silverwork guard in the shape of thorns falls, ending in a pommel of silver roses caging an enormous carnelian.

Provenance: The sword first entered into written history as part of a hoard of items found in the tombs beneath Primdeka during the Time of the Hidden Sun. The weapon was given over to the Sorcerers Imperial and became a weapon of the Beloved, the official duelist of the Old Empire. Before the War of the Pretender most minor conflicts were handled through trial by combat, and the lithe duelist, said to have been born of the union of a spirit and a pure priestess of the Dawn, used the item to deadly effect.

The blade was taken by an arcane warrior previously of the Ostari Rose off of the body of the Beloved. When the Beloved's armor was removed upon death the body was dust, proving that the Beloved may have been a revenant in the service of the Old Imperium.

Abilities: +1 lesser spirit bane Copper-bladed Schiavona (1h, d8, 18-20/x2, +1/d6 vs. spirits). The weapon grants the Arcane Channeling ability normally granted to Duskblades. The blade's greatest gift is in its ability to penetrate a target's defenses. If a critical hit is scored against a target the weapon is treated as having the Brilliant Energy enhancement towards that target. This power lasts until the target dies or displaces itself from the plane of existence.

Degraded: +1 Conductive Copper-Bladed Schiavona. The blade is etched from exposure to the elements, and the Carnelian within its pommel is cracked down the center.

ขอทาน, Beggar.

Description: A large cudgel carved with the symbol of the Almsgiver, the head is loaded with a plug of lead in the top. The bottom, when the weapon is swung or shook, makes the sound of tinkling coppers.

Provenance: Found by a beggar who stowed away on the ship, said to be passed down through various performers and beggars over the last five hundred years throughout the Horn. Rumors of the item's provenance (it was gifted to the original Almsgiver, protector of the poor of the Imperial seat/a penance weapon shaped by a mage for a monk who had sworn poverty) are renowned, but its nature makes itself obvious only rarely due to its ability to cause severe distress to the beggar.

Abilities: +2 Enhanced Club (d8 due to loading). The item grants a +4 bonus to vocal Perform or Profession (Beggar) checks. The item contains three ancient coins that can cause extreme generosity. As a full round action make a Perform (Oratory), Perform (Comedy), Perform (Singing), or Profession (Beggar) check while tossing the coins on the ground. Any creature within 20' must make a Will Save (DC: Perform Check -4) or begin to empty their pockets and purses. This effect causes 50 coins/round to be thrown to the ground per individual, until their purses are empty or they pass the continuing 1/rd Will Save. If the save is made before the beggar leaves the 20' radius the viewer lowers his attitude to you by 1 step.

Degraded: This weapon is Degraded. No one knows what its original abilities were; however, the club seems to have been made of a broken staff as its capped bottom looks as if it may match another hollow staff.

Hubris ความโอหัง

Description: This longsword’s hilt bears four silver icons of maidens holding a sapphire sphere at its pommel. The blade is bone black, and when drawn from its bone white scabbard the oiled blade whispers with a sigh.

Provenance: Hubris was once the blade of a powerful Protectant sworn to the services of the Daughter of Dawn. When the Pretenders came her husband was chosen to the service of Mandia the Boy Queen, the mystic who had been unsexed to protect her identity until the rise of the Pretenders.

Believing her Protectant husband to have been untrue the wielder of Hubris drove the blade into the chest of Mandia and her accused lover . . . Who turned to be the wielder’s son. She fell upon her sword there, and it is claimed that the blade went from the pure white gold of the ancient Protectants to its black form.

This legend is said to be the reason for the creation of Sword Daughters and the pacts of celibacy among the followers of the Lord of Light, as the Prohibition was caused by the bloodshed at the Slaughter of the Keep of Stars.

The blade was lost to time during the Voyage, though there have been rumors of its use among rogue Sword Daughters of the Dark Church. It is said that the Host of the Dark Church selects female Sword Daughters to

Abilities: The blade functions as a +2 Longsword that allows the user to cast discern lies at a caster level equal to the user’s hit dice. The weapon also provides a bonus to strength when wielded akin to a belt of giant strength +2. If the blade is wielded by one who has turned against their former companions treat the Strength bonus as +6, and the blade gains the bane quality towards their former companions (see: Degraded).

The blade’s whispers bring about paranoia in the wielder, causing the wielder to suffer from delusions of persecution by their colleagues. The power slowly creeps in, and begins once the wielder has slain ten sentient creatures. Starting at a DC: 10, a Will Save must be made for every creature slain by the weapon in service to a cause, to prevent the blade’s owner from turning on their companions. Once this effect has been triggered, see Degraded.

Degraded: The blade’s true power has been released. The spirit of the forgotten Protectant has driven the wielder to madness, and they are affected by the enhanced abilities of the Sword and Lesser Confusion. This confusion may only be broken by a Will save (made every round), the death of the wielder, or a defeat of the spirit.

The spirit can be battled through multiple turning attempts (3 passed turning attempts) followed by a combination curative spell healing as many HP as the wielder possesses and then beating the wielder to unconsciousness or dying. The spirit may also be battled within the host by sealing the creature within via an anchoring spell on the wielder’s person, though this sealing will sacrifice the wielder and prevent them from being raised from the dead by anything short of a divine miracle. The most dangerous version of the spirit battle (and most rewarding) comes when a challenge is issued by a current Protectant, Brother, Mother, or spiritualist (Any Divine Caster, Conjuror, or Summoner).

If called to battle the spirit is an Antipaladin with a level equal to its current wielder, with maximum hit points. The spirit is considered an Outsider and is thus immune to positive energy while trapped in their challenged form. No creature but the issuer of the challenge may battle the spirit, and the spirit wields its own ideal version of the blade (treat as an unholy sword with the abilities of the current version of Hubris. If the battle is won in this matter the blade is reborn in its original form as แสงแดด (Sunlight), a +2 Holy Longsword which emanates a constant Zone of Truth around the wielder.

Boast โอ้อวด

Description: The blade is made from an unearthly metal that seems to sparkle even in candlelight and bears the inscription ผมแสงปฏิเสธ above the guard. The blade is perfectly balanced as a bastard blade, and its hilt is wrapped in Methiran silk. The scabbard bears the likeness of a knight on horseback charging into the ranks of a score of foes, the blade borne to the sun.

Provenance: Wielded by a brash knight of impeccable grace known to legend as The Beauty of the Moors, Boast is claimed to have been in existence since the First Empire. The blade seems to be the only mystical part, as the handle itself has been replaced in the colors of a dozen Houses over its time in the Horn, while its scabbard has shown images of the hunt, mythic beasts, and even the gods falling before its might.

The blade’s inscription has two meanings: I am the light that was refused and I reject the light. The sword seems to be attractive to braggarts and bold knights, who have rushed to an early grave with it by their side. The Circlet Knight, a Protectant in the city in the Strait of the Calling Seas, wears the weapon to battle, and has been the winner of the Tournament of Fallen Stars since its acquisition.

Some claim the blade was forged by the Lost Smiths of Saria, in the time before the First Empire. No matter who has made it the blade has served well for the Paldo and their holy warriors.

Abilities: This +2 Adamantine Keen Bastard’s Sword allows the user to Disguise Self as the spell indefinitely, though the user always appears handsome or fair beyond compare and begins their time in the disguise with long flowing locks. The blade has no other abilities.

Degraded: Due to its nature the blade may not be degraded, though if Sundered it retains only the power to Disguise Self.

Clarity ความชัดเจน

Description: The thin spindle of crystal is in the shape of an icicle, but is warm to the touch. When placed near a candle the flames seem to pull towards the crystal, and the spindle flickers through the visible spectrum of light from red to violet over the span of thirty seconds.

Provenance: One of the more bizarre weapons of the Hundred Hands, Clarity was found suspended in a vial of oil in the Emperor’s Seaside palace. Though many of the soldiers snickered at the faerie lights the crystal made, one scholarly lieutenant took the device and added it to his kit.

The item has been passed down amongst the Marsein intelligentsia for five hundred years, and was last seen in the possession of the Old Fox, a bandit who holds the Marsein keep at Pale Pines in the North.

Abilities: The item serves as a dagger on short notice, but its true power is hidden within its name. If placed to the temple of the wielder a true sight effect is put into place, and his overall sight is improved by five times. This ability lasts for concentration, or until the wielder drops the spindle from his temple. The spindle also has the ability to steal light, causing any nonmagical light sources in a 30’ radius to disappear. For every light source extinguished in the manner the user may store 1d6 fire damage in the form of a sheet-thin band of white light. This power maxes out at 5d6 (up to 10d6 for higher magic campaigns) and may only be released twice per day.

Degraded: The item’s flames cannot be stored, but is immediately released. The True Sight ability also disappears, to be replaced by see invisibility.

คำสั่งซื้อ, Order

Description: The blade stands as tall as a man with hand outreached, and bears the motto กฎหมายตรัสดังนั้น.

The copper handle bears murals of skeletons dancing hand in hand. If one looks closely the clothing that the skeletons wear denotes their station. Above all stands a single man in simple robes, a book clutched in his left hand and the sword cradled with the figure’s right. When wielded the bearer’s hands bleed from a thousand cuts.

Provenance: The blade known as Order, or Headsman’s Love, was the sword of execution in the Ostari Imperium. It is said that the blade was corrupted by use in war, being born by the legendary warrior known as the Shade of the Iron Hills. The blade was taken on the battlefield, and passed down through the hands of mighty Marsein warriors who served the Empire as the Libram, the ultimate justice and keeper of the Marsein tradition. The sword is now wielded by Tomas Houndsclaw, a brusque and brutal warrior raised to the post of Libram by the Hundred Lords.

Abilities: Order is a +2 Vicious Greatsword. The blade balances the mind of the Libram, changing the wielder’s alignment to True Neutral.

The blade is bound to the Hundred Lords by the ritual of Ascension. If the Hundred Lords choose an individual to be executed for crimes against the Imperium, the blade is awakened to its purpose. The weapon is imbued with the will of the Hundred Lords, and gains the vorpal ability against the sworn target. This power tears at the soul of the Libram, as he is targeted with the effects of a curse to seek out the target or be damned for his failure. If the Libram does not actively seek out the death of his target he suffers the effect of a Geas spell.

Degraded: If the blade is used to kill a member of the Hundred Lords without the consent of the Congress the blade becomes degraded, reverting to a +2 Vicious Greatsword until a new Libram is granted Ascension and bears the blade.

Երեխաների օրհնում Լույս (Blessed Child)

Description: A dagger made of obsidian bears the crest of the Four Shahs. When held the blade is ice cold, though a magician is said to feel a life and vigor within the blade.

Provenance: Granted to the Ostarian Imperial Family as a gift from the Zajan Shahs of old, Blessed Child was the preferred weapon of the Sorcerer Imperial. Upon the fall of the Silver Keep the Marsein Seeker Oul took it as her own and wore it throughout her time, protecting and serving the warriors of Marsein as a medic and midwife. Oul the Mother became a saint incarnate among the followers of the Marsein, surrounded by children who were said to be blessed by the gods and a sign of Oul’s favor.

When Oul died of old age during the Voyage the blade was given to the Circle, the children who had become Oul’s followers and served as competent healers and diplomats during the Voyage’s interactions with the various tribes and cultures they found during their sojourn. When the Circle was broken for acts against the Empire the blade was lost to antiquity.

Abilities: The blade appears to be a finely-crafted obsidian blade (treat as masterwork keen) in most hands. If wielded by a spellcaster the blade can serve as a protective shield. If the wielder is reduced to half of their normal hit points the blade ‘steals’ the character’s highest spell slot to heal a xd8+x where the X represents the level of spell cast.

The blade’s true blessing and curse is found in its hidden traits. When wielded by a scion of royal blood the dagger produces its animus, a child dressed in beautifully crafted clothing. The spirit is the shame of the Shahs, a sacrifice of royal blood made to appease a foul spirit. If a child dies within sight of the wielder the child rises again within the day. Treat these children as Aasimar. Blessed Child is the only known source of Aasimar around the Horn.

Degraded: If the blade is corrupted through killing one of the Blessed Children the blade shatters, and the animus known as the Child is released. The Child is one of the Lost, and the resultant battle would be legend around the Horn.

หิน (Stone), also known as ไข่ของลืม (Egg of the Lost)

Description: The item is said to be an emerald the size of a fist shaped in the form of a perfectly formed egg.

Provenance: Found in a pit mine in the reaches of Kuln, Stone was worn by a barbarian lord of the Mescari. This lord, whose name is lost to history, became a cavalry lieutenant among the Paldo. Revered for his power over his men, the Stone was lost during the Voyage when the aging lieutenant was dragged along with his steed into a pit by strange creatures gibbering and laughing. The only survivor of the sortie was thrown overboard due to a fever that befell him and the fifteen men of his billet who had remained behind.

Abilities: The Egg of the Lost’s powers are lost to the ages. There are whispers that it could make a man the greatest leader of an Age, with powers beyond mortal ken. Still others claim that it drives the wielder to insanity. The item was brought into the lore of the Hundred due to its seemingly mystic properties.

Degraded: Unknown.
