What I Learned Running a 1 to 30 D&D Campaign

One way I've discovered that makes Solos and Elites a bit more challenging is to allow them more than one action per round. A solo either has more than one initiative, or I give them lots of free and trigger actions. This prevents the whole "ok, solo has gone, let's wail on him" mentality and actually causes the party to think and act with better tactics in mind.

More than one action per round...beholders are your friends. I think they are probably my favorite 4E creature...they go every turn!

I see Mike is getting at. My campaign will hit Epic this session or the one after it...they are level 20 now. Hopefully I can use some of his advice, but I agree, even now, challenging the players is hard. That damn warlord rewrites half the rules every session and gives out bonuses like Santa does candy canes.
