What if Earth suddenly stopped spinning?

Perhaps one should ask ... how quickly? Most folks would be moving quite quickly relative to the now non-rotating earth. Folks at the equator would suddenly be moving at about 1000 m/hr relative to the earth. Folks at the poles would be OK. There would be rather large ocean surges if they weren't stopped with the earth.

Harrumph, I suppose the stoppage would be for things on the earth too.

For the Earth to "suddenly stop spinning" would require such a massive amount of energy that I am pretty sure everyone would be dead before they actually got to experience the "not spinning" part. Like, the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs was nowhere close to powerful enough to stop the Earth from spinning and it completely wrecked the World.
