Lost in Dark Sun
Great Weapon Master - the guy playing the Bear Totem Barbarian.
His 13th level Eldritch Knight died in the most badass way possible: soloing an adult red Dracolich so the rest of the party could successfully banish the monster to another plane of existence.
Naturally, the player decided his next character should be even more of a badass.

Dual Wielder - the guy playing the War Cleric.

Magic Initiate - myself. Booming Blade, Green-Flame Blade, and Shield.

Toughness - literally everyone in the secondary DM's campaign.

Our table is about 'character concept first, mechanically sensible builds next.' Nobody's chosen any broken combos, either powerful or weak, but they do get the characters to an effective place before going for fluff.

VHuman 1: UA Phoenix Sorcerer w/ Elemental Adept: Fire.
VHuman 2: Battlemaster w/ Two Weapon Fighting.

When we hit 4th level, it's going to be a mixture of ASI's, UA Skill Feats, and maybe one Warcaster.
