The 'make them run away' plan is best left for the next night. If they start killing cpatives tonight, we start a fire to make them start moving. Either they leave the captives, or they take them with them. The only bad thing is they may decied to just kill them if they have to start moving.

Well if they start killing them tonight at least if we start a fire we are giving them a chance to live...otherwise they would all die anyway.

So, our plan is: we keep a regular guard through the night, and only take actionif they start messing with the hostages. If they don't do anything, we put our plan into motion the next night. If they do start killing the hostages, we starta brush fire. Does that sound righ to everybody? Sounds good to me.

It is about three quarters through the second watch when the faint sound of drums can be heard. Looking off toward the gnolls, those on watch see a brief glimmer. Almost as if a bonfire had been lit behind a rise and you had seen the initial flames before it settled down a little bit.

A short time later, the sound of the drums rises considerably. You can clearly hear them across the plain.
