I agree - this ended any chance (albeit a small one) that I'd buy Paizo stuff. Ah well, I'm only one amongst many. SKR is a nice guy, I'm sure, but his philosophies on life outside of gaming are just so...um, wrong.
This philosophy really doesn't make any sense.
I can understand if you don't like SKR's writing, that's a legitimate reason. But if he just doesn't agree with your political or religious views--what's the problem? You can like a person's work and not like their opinions.
Case it point. Gary Gygax--a guy most people like on this board--had very strong political and religious opinions that would have caused controversy on these boards if he expressed them. On his talk list, you could find out the following things: He thought the war in Iraq was important, felt Islam was not a religion of peace and felt the middle east war was as important as the rise of Nazism. He hated the ACLU because he felt they were trying to eliminate religious worship in the country, shifted over the years from pure Liberarianism to a blend of that and neoconservativism, was a fan of conservative columnists like Ann Coulter, hated fantasy works like The Golden Compass, and believed in Marriage being a religious institution that should not be made open to homosexuality.
Would any of you suddenly dislike Gary because you know these things? Would you decide to boycott D&D or stop getting any of his new work because he expressed an opinion? Do you only have friends who are your political and religious affiliation?
The work of any creator should stand on its own. Should people not play CoC because Lovecraft had racist tendencies? Should you not listen to Wagner's opera The Ring of the Nibelung because his attitudes brought inspiration to Hitler? If your an atheist goth, does Anne Rice's re-acceptance of Catholicism make you disavow her work? If you're a fan of Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game, does his personal opinions on homosexuality being "wrong" make that work suddenly awful?
I would like to think that people are judging game desinger's output based on their quality and how it stimulates your imagination or respects your intelligence rather than whether or not he or she belongs to a specific political agenda.
