Max Payne

I am getting sick of Hollywood deciding that they want to adapt something to the big screen AND that it needs to be "improved." They had their script in the Max Payne game. It was all there. Why mess with success?

*sigh*

:)

That assumes for the movie that I want a new story.

The game was released long enough ago that it looks dated, including the cut scenes. I was very excited about seeing this done verbatim, because I think it was that well written and I would like to see the cut scenes with real people. Further, there is enough in the game that it can't all be done, so it will still be new, in terms of what they decided to pick and what they left out.

I understand a writer wanting to do something new. (It's too bad they didn't get the original writer for this so they could redo it they way they wanted.) I think the Max Payne story is already there, though, and doesn't need "tweaking."

Obviously this is me.

btw, I am *firmly* in support of updating things that are older than ten or twenty years, *if it makes sense to do so.* Iron Man is a good example of that for me, as the vietnam origin wouldn't fit for today. So, I am all for it. I don't think that something less than ten years old needs to be updated. But hey, I am ready for the movie to prove me wrong!

Thanks for the response!

Because "Max Payne" is name we know. And yet, not all of us know the original story, so we go in without expectations.

But don't you go in with the expectations that come along with that recognition? I've never played the game, but if I went to see the movie without first viewing the trailer, I would have been very confused about the direction they took with the story. I'm not saying the movie won't be good, I'm just wondering why they bothered to shell out for the license for the IP from the game when they could have just created it from scratch.

Not really. I went to go to see the Dungeon Siege movie without any expectations and I have played the game. No, it wasn't great but it wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen.

And trying to understand why movie companies do the things they do is a futile chore, IMO. All you'll do is frustrate yourself.

Just my 2 cents.

I don't really care enough to be frustrated, just a little confused. The trailer actually looks pretty cool.

Yeah . . .

I don't know why they bought the rights to Max Payne. It wasn't Max Payne.

It wasn't bad, if you like Wahlburg, but it wasn't great, either. It was a typical cop show, really.

But it wasn't Max Payne.
