Peter Lee talks about Modrons miniatures

I can see the problems the minis guy is talking about. Try to make them with those ultra-thin limbs = difficult. Reimagine them = "nooooo, the destroyed Modrons!"
Me, i´d rather let them rest. They are too tightly tied into the "planes = aligments" concept to be that useful in 4e. I´d rather see something fresh in MotP.

Yes because a plane of balance and neutrality is so tied to alignments like unaligned......

Not like it couldn't be the hub port for the Astral Sea or anything where all paths lead to and from for safe haven from the others.

Yup totally too tied to alignments.

Sorry, but just to get sure: Is this an obtuse and snarky way of disagreeing with me?

Up modrons!

I can understand the resistance to them, but the multiverse (4e or otherwise) is big enough to handle just about anything, methinks.

Mearls, why no love for the 1e MM2? I'm with you on the FF, but I try to love all of them equally.

I didn't get my hands on a copy until probably high school, so I never really obsessed over it like I did the FF. Also, I'm a sucker for everything produced by TSR's UK branch, from Beyond the Crystal Cave to Drums on Fire Mountain.

Define snarky. Is that like a snack and shark combined? Sorry don't use strange slang.

I was jovially disagreeing with you in that there is room for the little alignment confines in 4th that an unaligned/true neutral plane would have no problem in fitting.

I cannot see how a plane of neutrality could be anyway closely tied to alignments wherein the reverse is true.

I will read my MMII and provide areas where it could fit into the unaligned section of 4th alignments if you like, but would also like explaining how it is too tied to alignments as to where it cannot fit in 4th with the perfect abstraction and lack of interference of alignments in 4th as well the existence of unaligned which this plane fits most perfectly into that would further express the idea of 4th that the gods and alignments do not interfere with mortals, such as the modrons keep to their own plane in order to maintain a perfect balance there.

I really don't think that Modron's obsession for order would put the new alignment system on a check.

I'd say:

- Revamp modrons appearance to fit minis (make it a bit closer to hammerers);
- Mechanus is a demiplane;
- Keep Primus as an alien god/demigod with a strange agenda of "order" wich don't make sense for most mortals;
- Rogue Modron miniature is a win.

It's just a matter of creativity and adaptation in my opinion.

Agree.

There's plenty of room in the Astral Sea for such a dominion, and the freedom of the 4E alignment system allows Modrons and their extreme "lawful order" behavior/belief fit within "Unaligned" just fine.

Also...why not combine the concept of Modrons and Inevitables together? That way you can make their appearance a little more standard, but still mechanical/alien.

The trick would be making them fantasy without crossing over into the realm of pure Sci-fi.

I dislike modrons. I love the grell; I think they're a good type of creepy, alien aberration.

I don't have an opinion of the grick one way or the other, except that I still think it's more of a viable creature option than polyhedrons on legs. ;)

But like I said above, I'd be willing to give the modrons a shot--but it would require substantial reimagining of what they are and why they exist.
The first one of your opinions I've disagreed with the Grell are nonsense aberration creatures which we've got plenty of, modrons are great and give a new direction to roleplaying in my opinion, when I saw a grick and a grell I was largely underwhelmed and thought of Bad Doctor Who monsters and now I'm more likely to think of as someones cast off spore creation.

I think the reason people dislike modrons is because they bring a touch of steampunk esque moderness to the genre which many people aren't comfortable with, I'm fine with it I love me a bit of 2nd edition planescape even though I never played it in that system.

In regards to making the minature being a difficult process surely you'd just put one of those see through plastic supports underneath the main body like they do for flying creatures and make legs and such the same width as spears and other weapons and affix them to the base and body.
