Pathfinder 1E Paizo Licenses

I think the community use policy is very nice.

The only thing that would give me pause is the "adult content" condition. Does that mean profanity is out? Mild profanity? Where's the line?

(Or is it like porn - you know it when you see it?)

It is like porn.

Don't take my word for it... but R-rated content is probably okay. NC-17 or X rated content probably isn't. Sticking to PG-13 content's probably the safest bet, but even in PG-13 movies you've got F-bombs and profanity and nudity and hearts being ripped out of chests. Heck, Jaws was PG, and it's got nudity and violence aplenty. And there was a bare breast in "Clash of the Titans."

The point is, though, if someone does something we don't like we'll let them know in a nice and gentle way once it's brought to our attention. If they don't comply, THAT'S when we send out our jackbooted thugs.

What about Evil Dead 2 levels of blood and gore?
Descriptions of unholy and evil acts?
or other such things that I've been wanting to publish as gaming material but otherwise would have to design my own rpg from scratch to do?

I hope you gave the jackbooted thugs bigger hit dice or more feats. You know, just to keep them competitive.

(I kid because I love.)

There's a familiarity in how the Pathfinder Compatibility License isn't really that different from the old d20 STL (save that the Pathfinder License allows you to reprint character creation and advancement rules) - anyone who wants to make a product with the Pathfinder rules that might be prohibited under the Pathfinder License can still make a product that's 100% compatible with it; they just can't use the Compatibility Logo.

Dude, did you see what they did to the Fighter? You know that the class Paizo Elite Jackbooted Thugs makes the Fighter look like nothing. Its the most disgustingly overpowered base class in existance. And they're not publishing it. They do not want players to know what it can do until its to late.

Hell, just one level 1 Paizo Elite Jackbooted Thug can take on Invisible Christopher Walkin who is wielding Blackrazor and still win!!!

OMG! They can change this at any time, or even cancel it! Let's all freak out about this completly standard contract clause and run around like headless chickens for awhile like we did about the same clause in the GSL...

I do think it's interesting, almost ironic, that James said specifically the "adult content" clause in the GSL was a big sticking point for them, but there is the same clause in their own license. Apparently, if they weren't already Paizo, they couldn't themselves get a license to publish Pathfinder material :)

You can use the rules and system without using the compatibility license just fine because of the OGL.

And if they do change or cancel the license, you can continue to use the old version(till you run out of stock, or want to use it for a new product), unless they pulled your license because you were in breach.

And you always have the option of removing the compatibility logo and going the OGL route.

So it's not the 'same clause'.

Nowhere close to ironic and not really that interesting. If you review both the GSL and the PRGCL you'll see that WotC's license is more specific and more restrictive in that area.

If the above it is true, then the DDI is indeed a failure or Paizo are selling a lot more adventures than I thought. Interesting though, since the companies do not share figures (I assume), how does one know who sells the most? Short of someone leaking confidential information.

Advertising claims get a lot of leeway. Why wonder how they can say "best selling," without wondering how they can say "most popular"? My guess is that those two claims have equal factual basis. (And this is not a slam on Paizo, whom I cowwectivewy wuv. In a manwy -- er, manly -- way.)
