Fiend Folio: 30 Years of Flumph

For me it was the Pennanggalan. I used to turn the page really quick when I got to that entry. I'm 38 now, and I'd probably still do the same.

Though, there's a worse one on the next page.

So, double page flipping. It's definitely one of the more creepy looking undead.

And before I forget, the front cover with everyones first view of the Githyanki.

I always thought that the back cover looked kind cool too.

Yep, it must have been double page flipping. I actually had a nightmare about that entry which is why I would flip past it. I know I never used one while DMing either. There weren't too many entries in any of the monster manuals that actually scared me when I was a kid.

Wow, that's is really cool. Yet another reason why EN World is so great. That must have been a kick when he saw the Shadow Demon in the cartoon.

Funnily enough, I never saw the cartoon, and didn't know it even existed until I read about it here on ENworld!

Slight tangent but Plane Sailing's RL name is a great CoC character's name. I'm going to use it if I play that game again.

True. Who wouldn't want to play a character named Erastus Burbank?

:)

Did YOU write that? Cause if so, we may have to hurt you...
Umm...yeah, I'm afraid so. It was even a Monster Hunters storyline, where they get deputized to go deal with a group of "beholders" (gorbels) spotted in a field just outside of town.

And I thought tying their proclivity to explode when hit by sharp objects into their reproductive cycle did a fair job of explaining just why they'd explode like that. That was always half the fun for me: coming up with somewhat reasonable explanations to try to explain some of the inherent "weirdness" of D&D creatures.

From "They Deserved It" by Roger E. Moore from Dragon #228:

Having a PC killed by one [a flumph] would have been a mark of shame that no player could have ever erased, no matter how many tarrasques his heroes killed later. ("Hey, are you the guy whose wizard was killed by a flumph? Whoa, you must be mental!")....

...I would never, ever, want to have a character killed by one. I would forced by crushing shame to turn in my Player's Handbook and take up gold, and I hate golf.

I love this article. According Mr. Moore, the only thing worse that being killed by a flumph, is being killed by a garlic bread golem...
