PC or Mac?

No offense, but that's not really a sound measure. Extrapolating "RPG'ers have a higher percentage of Mac users" out of this one thread is sketchy at best. You're polling one internet website, which is a subset of "role-playing gamers who post on the web" which is a subset of "role-playing gamers." And that's leaving out the "self-selection" of people who post regularly and the even smaller number of people who posted in this particular thread.

A better gauge would be the visitor statistics. At least that's what I thought, and when I checked my own sute, it has 14,60 percent Mac users.

Which is a lot more than I expected, but which might be related to me using several different Macs to access the site.

Maybe Morrus has a breakdown of OS statistics to share?

Strange how much the percentage changed since yesterday.

Well, I must admit, I don't care much for the hardware flexibility of PCs anymore. It's just too much work for me working out the components, I rather buy something preconfigured.

But the software flexibility is important to me. Oh, and I like working with .NET, too.

I am very happy with my MacBook Pro, though. I use it for writing RPG stuff and as my "videoplayer". The hardware and software on it is decent - but it doesn't contain everything I want.

My primary machine is still my PC. I still can't imagine going back to a non Mac notebook, but I can easily imagine installing Windows (7?) via BootCamp - which requires either acquiring a new MacBook (I am holding out for Tablet or Multitouch offering there) or updating to (Snow) Leopard. I suspect I will come around doing this eventually..

Interesting: at this time nearly 24% either use a Mac, or use both and prefer the Mac. That's the sort of market share that DDI should pay attention to when deciding what to support.*

It seems that the DDI devs are pretty clued up on .NET and for them to develop a Mac version they would probably have to start over from the beginning. I doubt the added costs/time for that would be worth it. I would hazard a guess and say that the sole reason they can produce such great software so quickly is mainly down to the power of that framework

As, for the vote - I voted PC as I rely on it for my livelyhood. Its pretty rare for me to meet someone who regularily uses Mac for business

As others have already noted, this poll does not strongly demonstrate that at all. Your polling method really isn't appropriate for determining that.

Statistically speaking, there are usually several of us in the crowd.

I've never had a Mac or access to one.

I've dabbled with Linux and will continue to do so, but only out of interest.

PC desktop with a triple screen set up. G4 Mac laptop running OS 10.5. I've never been big on videogaming, I use it mostly to surf the web and write. I also have a G3 iMac that I use on the TV for video playback. And I use an iPhone.

While doing my astronomy research I almost exclusively used a Mac except for using Origin for data fitting (which ended up being superflous). In my biology research I needed to use both since the Gas Chromatograph was PC based and I needed Origin again to fit growth curves to my Methanogen data (which impressed the biologists).

On Mac with Preview I don't have to install ghostscript so I can read postscript files and I basically get a .pdf distiller and editor for free.

As for hardware. Apple doesn't build low-end macs. I and several reviewers have done comparisons and a Dell laptop that has the same capabilities as the low end $999 Mac will cost approximately the same. Its just that Dell provides discounts and specials and Apple doesn't. And again, the Mac comes free with software that would cost you on a PC.

Being at the NASA centers I've found that most of the Scientists use Macs and the Engineers and Management use PCs. And I have anecdotal evidence that Macs are popular in France.
