Other: Spelljammer. A potential kitchen sink setting that still doesn't share a niche with FR.

One of Dark Sun's big points is the stuff it excludes, and that doesn't quite jive with 4E:s core.

Dark Sun. With the mention of thrikreen and half-giants in the EPG and PHB3 including psionics you'd have to think it would be near a lock.

Wait and see what tomorrow brings.

I think Defcon 1 makes a very good point about Dragonlance in that it will
help drive novel sales.

I'd really like to see Dark Sun, but voted "other" because I think Greyhawk could be in the running as a setting that would like stir up the most passionate response.

Call me crazy, but I thought someone important and in-the-know posted in another thread saying Dragonlance is not the new setting. I may be wrong...

Despite all the pointers leading to Dark Sun, I think its large exclusions of core material knock it out of the hard cover running and make it a perfect fit to be introduced in DDI as its first exclusive campaign setting. I mean we have an exclusive race and an exclusive class in September, why not an exclusive setting? Imagine the leap in subscriptions, even for a few months, if that were the case. It also saves them a lot of grief in DDI versus going out on a limb and seeing it not sell well.

I voted a new setting.

Draconians in the new miniatures set, recent article(s) on Dragonlance in Dragon, and a new book by Weiss and Hickman being advertised on WotC ... that adds up to Dragonlance to me.

So, make my bet 10 steel pieces.

I'd love to see an original 4e PoL setting that is different than most D&D settings- something dark, burtal, and desperate. Something very much in line with a S&S theme (FR has high fantasy down, and Eberron has wahoo fantasy).

That said, I'm prepared to be disappointed and see Dragonlance get the go-ahead from WotC. Dark Sun would surprise me simply because while it was a cool setting and beloved among hardcore gamers, it never had that huge of a following, and wouldn't probably have as much appeal as a more "traditional" setting.

I'm hoping Dark Sun, because Dragonlance gets a shoulder-shrug from me - it was great in the 80's, but the setting has been screwed with so much that I really don't see any new frontiers opening in it unless they change it so much it will be too different from the core Dragonlance conceits. The limitations on magic, the draining nature of magic on wizards, I really can't see 4E modeling without making it an almost different game entirely.
