Which edition poll for October

What are you playing now?

4e here. Haven't touched any others since we hit our stride with this edition last October. Not likely to switch out any time soon, either.

Viva La 4e!

Early prediction: about half of us will be playing 4E, and about half of us will be playing something else. I think the D&D community is still split down the middle over 4E, pretty much.

I voted for Pathfinder because I am currently playing a sandbox PF game, just to test out the new stuff. It remains to be seen, whether we will stay with Pathfinder or if we will revert back to 3.5 after this trial run.

Spot on, Clever Nick. Although I would add that the community was split between 3rd edition and older editions before 4th edition. The poll reveals that about 1/4 play 3e/PF, but another 1/4 play 0/1/2e and its variations.

I voted for its all D&D to me - because I'll play in a 4e one off, but a 4e campaign just isn't gonna happen for me. I believe in low fantasy with a historical bent, and without re-writing half of the PHB, it just isn't going to happen. (that and non standard races, you know who you are, just ain't my cup o tea.)

Currently playing Sufficiently Advanced and really loving it. The fact that next session, as a GM, I actually don't know what the plot is going to be is a totally new experience for me. :)

4e is probably in my future, but, for now, it's post-humanist SF for me.

I moved to 4E because Windows Vista killed my copy of E-Tools; so far it's great for building adventures, but not so great for player characters.

Still playing 3E - unfortunately. I'm quite eager to switch to 4E after giving it a test.

But my 3E campaign will still take a long time to finish - and I don't want to convert it 'midgame'. Also not all of players are interested in switching, so it's at least another year of 3E for me.

I also bought the Pathfinder RPG but haven't read it thoroughly yet. From skimming it over I didn't feel any desire to actually use it.

Similar to my experience, except that I still like 3.5e. That is, I'm playing it in two current campaigns, and have no plans to switch, and those campaigns will go on for years longer.

And I bought Pathfinder, but I haven't read more than 5% of it, and ditto on the 4e PHB (haven't bought the rest yet). Just no time nor inclination for new rules from me . . . trying to be open minded, but don't have the time.

I will likely play in 4e, once another DM finally get around to running his long mooted campaign . . . also difficult for him to find time.

What am I currently playing?

More then one thing.

Your poll is useless to me.

A lot of folks commented along the lines of "I play 4e 3 times a week, C&C once a quarter, AD&D every Easter if the creek don't rise, and Vampire on Sadie Hawkins Day, so I reluctantly picked 4e."

To me, forcing those folks to "just say 4e already" improved the quality of the poll, since that effectively is their answer. Forcing a choice cuts down on the overreporting of things people "almost" play.

Also, I gave you the options of "it's all D&D to me" and "combo 3 & 4".

Alas, I forgot to the give "lemon curry" answer as an option. That's traditional around here for "I don't like your poll/I feel like goofing around/I'm a special snowflake and no poll can capture the uniqueness that is me".

What's interesting to me is that every one of these polls consistently has had about 45% support for 4e.

The 3e numbers seem to be declining though -- not just relative to Pathfinder, but relative to everything else, it seems to me. And they don't seem to be migrating to 4e . . .
