I doubt WotC would publish a book unless they felt it was good and saleable, so the question for those with that discerning caveat might require a bit of conjecture in regard to how much they are likely to find to their own personal tastes.

In the case where future 4E book sales are significantly below WotC's desired profit levels, there's always the option of WotC just publishing new content as DDI only.

For example, if the sales of PHB3 and DMG3 are not to WotC's satisfaction in profit levels, they could always change course in late 2010 and publish stuff like the Shadow and Elemental power source classes as "DDI only" for subscribers.

Back in the 3.5E days, this option was not easily available at the time.

I'm in for everything for as long as they are writing 4e material and supplements. All of the 4e stuff has been really high quality, not overpowered, and interesting thematically to me so far. As long as they keep this up, I'll keep buying.

I bought the initial books. After determining this was not the game for me, I sold them off again. I sincerely doubt I will buy anymore.

It's some sort of mathematical triangle so far:
2008: All 3 core books
2009: 2 books - PHB2 and MM2
2010: 1 book - the PHB3. (but the MM3 cover looks sweet too)

The rest depend on what's in the PHB4. There's a good chance I'll stop.

I voted Lemon curry.

I'll buy the books as they appeal to me, regardless of the number. I might buy Monster Manual 3 but not Monster Manual 2, or DMG 5 and not DMG 3 and 4 and so on so forth.

It should be noted that my choice is influenced by me being a DDI subscriber. I don't really need to buy every single book that comes out to still have the rules options at my fingertips.

Lemon Curry: I bought the original core plus Adventurer's Vault. Under my current campaign model I wouldn't have even bought AV. I "buy" everything I want through my DDi subscription and only renew that when I need it. I will continue to buy 4E adventures from WotC or any other company that makes professional quality adventures.
