Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder...In Space!

I'm thinking of doing a Dragonstar/Spelljammer like campaign, using Pathfinder rules.

First, any mechanical issues with adding guns and technology to Pathfinder? Any suggestions on how such things would interact with the Pathfinder rules?

Second, I'm thinking of doing an Expert style class that represents a tech/skills based character for engineers, scientists, etc. Any suggestions on what sort of class features such a character might have?

Paizo's Golarion campaign setting actually has PF rules for firearms. Check out the Grand Duchy of Alkenstar (Magic Dead Scientific Microstate). It might not be exactly what you're looking for, but should give you a jumping off point at least.

Hmm, well, as far as gadgeteers go, Northern crown (3.5) has a natural philosopher that emulates spells but as extraordinary abilities powered by devices. In return for their abilities to be extraordinary, the natural philsopher's power selection is limited by the degrees the character selects, and necesitates the presence of his inventions. That, IMO, is the best take on fantasty scientist types, although they are more spellcaster-like than pure roguish skill monkeys.

You might try adapting some of the Dragonstar stuff. I don't know what flavor you're looking for, but mechanically it should fit.

I wonder how well Airships from Bastion Press fits in with your thinking and how much or how little it would need adapting to Pathfinder.

Well:

Here's the official 3e spelljammer page, if you haven't seen that it may prove useful and fairly easily updateable.

As for firearms, I've seen rules for them in many places; the 3.0 DMG, 3.5 DMG, World of Warcraft RPG, and the best ones I've seen are in Mongoose's OGL Steampunk(3.0) With a page full fancy table and a malfunction table for if you roll really bad.
I covered some firearms basic stuff just recently in THIS thread.

As for the Engineers, the OGL Steampunk had some cool engineer classes, I've seen the odd one on the 3e houserules forum, and some on the wizards boards.

The Best Engineer/Item Builder type I've seen however is the World of Warcraft RPG tinker class, which expansively covers building machines (including from "spare parts the tinker is carrying around in his pockets"). lol. Seriously though, it's the best tech class I've seen, and has fully fleshed out mechanics..

I've run the first session. I adapted the Expert NPC class into a PC class (basically just added some class features and bonus feats) and am using D20 Modern for the guns and other more modern style equipment.

Its going quite well, so far.

You can see all the juicy details here.

I'm currently reading Tome of Secrets from Adamant that would address some of these problems. I like the artificer as a kind of engineer that could work in this sort of setting and while I'm not up to the firearms rules yet from what I have seen, they could do a good stand in for the original firearms back 2E.

Sometime ago i wrote a sci-fi game called Black Nova

when d20 3.5 came out i converted it and called it Black Nova 35

now pathfinder has come out and i think of tweaking it to that rules set, and i need a name

I thought StarFinder (as a bit like stargate universe engines are charged by suns). Cant decide if StarFinder sounds too cheesey?

any thoughts?
