The Skinny on Adventure Tools?

Blizzard has done well with the "Something Good is coming When It's Ready" business model, because they deliver in the end. The quality of the current releases give me some hope these guys can do the same thing. I have to view the various employment rumors like I do the stock market and weight loss - look at long term trends to avoid going crazy!

...the gaming community demonstrated previously that it is unable to handle in a reasonable manner the delay of a software product (something that happens pretty frequently in the software development business) that they aren't even paying for yet.

The question I have is will these tools be covered under the current cost of a DDI subscription? If WotC set the price of the subscription on the basis of the full suite of tools and content, both delivered and still in the pipeline, then subscribers are already paying for them. If that is the case then it's not out of line for people to be asking when they'll get to use the applications they've been paying subscription for.

I've been on the verge of cancelling my DDI subscription for a while. I used it quite a bit at first, what with playing in three campaigns, but as the frequency of level gains have slowed so has my use of the Character Builder. As that is the main reason I've had the subscription it hardly seems worth paying an ongoing subscription to use it so infrequently. Masterplan seemed like a good way for me to add to the value I get out of the subscription, as I may be running a game of my own soon, but that aspect of Masterplan seems like it's done its dash. The Character Builder is nice, but it's not enough for me to justify my subscription anymore.

There is no accounting for taste. I doubt the majority would agree with you.

Taste is all in the mouth of the beerholder ;) Besides that if we all agreed on style we would only need one radio station that played Abba all day, one style of clothes, one political party, etc etc. There is no right or wrong answer just opinions.

But I look at it this way, I'm content paying what I'm paying for now, if they tossed other stuff in and didn't raise the price I'm not going to complain.

The current subscription price is not the price that WotC announced way back when as the price for a full subscription once all the tools were out.

We don't use character builder really, given that we sometimes play where there's no computer to be found, and not everyone in the group has a computer. I had a DDI subscription because of Adventure Tools and Master Plan. So, now that Master Plan is dead, and, it sounds like Adventure tools is dead. I cancelled my DDI subscription.

I couldn't care less about internet etiquette, and being called internet names, I have no rational reason to. But for a company seeming to be in some trouble, I think some of WOTC latest moves, are highly problematic.

All I want is for WotC to be producing at least one of the options available; I believe that competition is better for us consumers. B-)

If the Monster Builder could handle traps, Templates, themes and print more then one monster at a time. I would be quite content with what we have. I do not need any more then that. I can calculate xp in my head. A dungeonbuilder would be nice, but frankly Dungjinni and FantasyGrounds is far superior to anything I think wizards would ever put out.

I am a big fan of the Monster Builder and the way it lets you tweak creatures up and down a few levels quite easily. Nicely multiples the options in the Monster Manual in a very dynamic way; I like it a lot.

Personally, I'd really like to see improvements in both the Character Builder and the Monster Builder before WotC presses on to new projects. For Character Builder in particular I feel like there's a lot that could be done to make it more user-friendly. My biggest specific gripe would be the way that feats are being handled - the feat list has become just about useless to me for actually finding feats. I end up going through all of my books, checking if a likely feat is available (due to prerequisites), and then if it is I can try to hunt it down in the CB. Oh, and I'd like it if I didn't have to revert to my backup copy of a character every other time I try to edit it at Epic level.

Like mudbunny pointed out, WotC actually lowered their subscription price to about half of what was originally announced to account for the lack of applications, which they've been slowly adding. You're not paying for imaginary products.
