Dragon Age 2

Well, JohnRTroy, it's going to be markedly more "console-style", from what I hear. As a PC gamer, I'm not thrilled about that - surely, there's been quite enough of that going on already. Dragon Age: Origins was almost. . . almost a "proper PC game". Close enough that many were glad, or indeed, relieved.

Oh, I was afraid you might be one of the people who think a voiced protagonist a la Mass Effect doesn't allow you to "roleplay properly", or upset that the change in character means that DA:O is "pointless". I'm seeing Bioware take a lot of heat on the forums for stuff that, to me, doesn't really matter that much.

Well. . . I guess, yeah. But not just that, mind you.

And, for the record, I haven't commented on this game in any way at any other site, so far. And I haven't posted anything at all at Bioware, f'rex.

But sure, I can see how (and maybe why) you'd lump me in with them. *shrug* Where you see. . . whatever it is you see in some folks (right or wrong, on a case by case basis). . . I see a genuine "consolification" :uhoh: of a formerly quite solid, if not stellar, PC game. That happened to also be released for the consoles, yes.

Eh. It's an eternal argument, and actually, I'd rather not perpetuate it. More trying to clarify my position there.

And, above and beyond that mire, I genuinely hope it's a good game. If so, I'll buy it! :)

I don't mind the change about the fixed character - it may even be a good one. I felt more attached to my Shepards than any of my DA:O ones, perhaps because the decisions taken by Shepard in game were consistent with his/her motivations, where the greater range of personalities allowed in DA:O made me uncomfortable at times. For example, afte the battle of Ostagar when Flemeth is explaining what you have to do, my City elf rogue (who was "dragged to Ostagar kicking and screaming" to paraphrase Duncan) would have told Alatair to get lost and would have left immediately, but for some reason he took command and led the group. Once Duncan was dead, there wasn't anything that tied him to the grey wardens (some would say that he needed to save the world, but you're not saving the world, just Ferelden. There are plently of other wardens elsewhere) but the game forced him to do so.

That kind of discrepances makes many of the choices fell false or bad; I never felt that when playing mass effect 1 or 2.

Dragon Age was a big letdown for me. I found it interminably dull to the point where I couldn't get past 16th-level on any character. The gameplay wasn't inspiring enough to push through the dry content.

Now, Mass Effect, on the other hand, I found was an utterly awesome game, from start to finish. I didn't mind that it was repetitive because the story and the characters were just so freaking awesome. There was very little I didn't love about that game. I'm still waiting for Mass Effect 2 to be cheap enough on Steam that I can afford it. But when it is, I'll pretty much drop every other thing I'm doing and play that till my eyes and fingers bleed.

So that they're making DA2 more like ME? Awesome.

I love Dragon Age...Lots.

But I saw the Trailer and I am just underwhelmed. I felt extremely immersed in the world of Dragon Age.

I like Mass Effect a magnitude more than Dragon Age. Alot of the complaints I hear about DA2, is they are making it 'Less RPG' like Mass Effect 2. I don't know what this means because I found Mass Effect 2 to be as RP intensive as ME1. The only thing I did not like is the inventory system of ME2.

IF DA2, feels more like Mass Effect 2 I will be OK with it.

I grew up with PC RPG's but I have to say I vastly prefer the console games now. PC's have their MMO's. I am OK with the move by Bioware to cater to the console.

I pretty much Game on the PC only for wargames and simulation games like Civilization, Age of (Some period), or theTotal Wars. I completely switched to Console Gaming for all other games. I vastly prefer Oblivion, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age on XBOX over PC.

Still the trailer for DA2 left me underwhelmed.

The small teaser trailer for ME2 had me chomping at the bit when it was released. I thought DA2 trailer would do that, but it has not. It felt more like a trailer for the new Tekken game.

Um, just how low are you looking for? It's been on sale at least twice this summer.

So. . . I guess you haven't experienced the awesomeness that is mods, for some of those games. Possibly all, but I don't know, in the case of ME. :hmm:

Anyway, they can not only improve the gameplay, graphics and so on - astoundingly! - but also extend the lifespan, considerably.

Just one of many, many reasons why I prefer PC gaming to console gaming.

But hey, to each their own. Thanks for sharing your perspective - it's interesting to hear all these different takes on what makes for good gaming, better platforms, etc.

Agreed. Dragon Age in particular gains a ton on the PC.
