Why? Belkar's the type to use dirty tricks. And for all the cuddly posture and witty comments of his, he is still an evil barbarian.
Roy, on the other hand, is probably quite tired with everything not going according to his plans, and so he vents.
At yet at the same time, Tarquin rolls with the blow, controls the situation and does his class act.

If anything, this makes both characters more interesting.
