Not a surprise at all, given the abysmal ratings.
It's a shame, because the last few episodes have been decent, and showed promise for further decency. Perhaps that's damning with faint praise, but I wouldn't call the show great. Still, the writers seemed to have gotten their act together, finding their tone a little better and more consistently, especially with regards to some of the characters. The only real problem was that it was too little, too late. The quality of these last few episodes should have been the quality of the entire first season. Ah well.

The problem is nowadays you need consistency from the get go. You need a showrunner who has a vision for where he wants the show to go , he or she needs to stick around to see it happen (and not get the boot or leave) and you need a writing staff that sticks to the threads and not decides to go camping in some distant place.
I think at the heart of Stargate there is a beating adventure show. Sure you can throw in action, but its primarily an adventure show. I know they wanted to expand the premise and surrounds of the whole Stargate mythos but people identify it with Richard Dean Anderson. Kurt Russell et all. Strange planet, ring , water in the ring etc.
THe big question is... are they gonna get home quick (but considering that season 2 has already finished filming.. reshoots?) or are they gonna to be Space 1999'd forever?

Blasphemous to many, I'm sure, but it was my favorite Stargate show.

Yeah, not surprisng. The producers want to do something different, but a lot of fans often don't want different, or at least too different. The show wasn't bad, but the pacing was decidedly glacial, and I didn't like that. It was ok in early first season, but after a while they really needed the characters to make progress.
