Intelligent Apes

you must never had played Star Frontiers. Hadozee, or 'deck apes' First showed up in 2e spelljammer and in turn were a fantasy version of the Yarzarians from SF (they did the same for the drasalites and vrusk, though I forget the spelljammer names).

I am 90% certain the Hadozee started out as a Spelljammer thing. that doesn't make them less goofy, but it explains why they're so goofy.

Also, while I was looking this up, I noticed another race in the MC7 called the Gromman, which seem to be intelligent apes.

in golarion there are intelligent demon influenced apes in themwangi expanse ruled bybthe gorilla king. level 14 fighter reincarnated as a dire ape. he was originally done for a game mastery mini adventure that came with minis. I think this pre dated golarion. though this wa an el 5 adventure I think. he seemed to get an upgrade in pathfinder.

At one time he (Gorilla Grodd) was nothing more than an average ape, but after an alien spacecraft (retconned from a radioactive meteor, the same one that empowered Hector Hammond) crashes in his African home, Grodd and his troupe are imbued with super-intelligence by the ship's pilot. Grodd and fellow gorilla Solovar also develop telepathic and telekinetic powers. Taking the alien as their leader, the gorillas construct a super advanced home named Gorilla City.

Just take stats for normal apes and makes them a bit smarter.

I'm reluctant to use hadrazee as this is for an Isle of Dread mod and I'm already using phanatons! 'That island where everything has huge skin flaps and can glide' is somewhat less ominous.

I was going through my 3rd edition PDF's and found 'prehistorica' so I'll be using one of the tribes from there and aping them up. Some good ideas in this thread and great product recommendations!

Thanks!
