[M&M2e] Red Sands Chronicles

The Ottoman frowns, "The crawler's turrets are not machine powered... The are rotated by using a hand crank most surely."
A short silence and then Seif yields, for now, "Too, they cannot point down past... this point," with a gesture to a spot about 50m in front of the mega-crawler.

But if you want to assault the big fish, you got to eliminate the lampreys first." and he points at the armored smaller crawlers.
"True, but their vision is low, limited, they rely on their mother for sight... and see, their backs strain under the weight of their armor." A slow, predatory smile is stretching under Seif's veil, pulling at the corner of his blue eyes. Memories of raids past, of such hungry/greedy discussions with uncles, cousins... fathers. Blood and wealth and belonging.

Brian Shaughnessy

Brian frowns at Seif's predatory expression.

"With all those lookouts, I think they'd have come after us if they could spot us, which they haven't. I think our best bet is to lay low and let them pass. Besides the folks we can see, you have to assume at least, say, three to each of the smaller vehicles. It's a sizable force and I don't think we benefit even if we win."

"You assume choice," flatly replied the veiled one -- there was *some* amusement at having your own advice quoted back to you... but only some. Then his face changed, subtly, "and you forget play. Look down. How would *you* take this convoy, Shaughnessy? If you had to."

It was surely only the boy's imagination that supplied tiny dancing embers at the back of the desert man's eyes, like quiet memories of slaughters past.

"Camels!" Deezy chuckles at that one. "No sir, we're not quite that backwards. We'll check it out...unless, well, no offense but is there some reason you fellas didn't? Was it a trap or something?"

The Metal Beast shudders slightly at the rumbling of the passing convoy, and Deezy quickly cuts off her mic even though she'd meant to ask more. That rumble would be even louder inside, she figured. Whoever was on the radio might not be able to tell it apart from the natural noise that surrounded him.

At least she hoped so. The others seemed very suspicious of the crawlers, though they didn't seem aggressive to her. Still, she didn't want them freaking out because she'd accidentally let them know that they were very close now.

On the channel they were using for their caravan, Deezy added to the conversation, "Maybe they do know we're here, and they just don't care. Just because they're here doesn't mean they're after us."

"I'm just a guy who works the factory floor, not a tactician," Brian says, unnerved. "But I guess, well, there's a pretty huge engine in that mega crawler. If there was a way to overheat it ... it'd make a pretty big boom, yeah?"

"Here's hoping. I mean, sounds like they had their own mission to be heading this direction; we may be low enough priority that no one bothered them with us. For that matter, the way all the bloody factions work, these folks might not even like the local Victoria Townies. Not that I'm keen to run up and say hello just to find out, mind you."

The mega crawler slowly rolls passed the junction, giving the group's surveillance team a clear view of the crawler's rear, where it's three large exhaust vents are located.

"Camels! No sir, we're not quite that backwards. We'll check it out...unless, well, no offense but is there some reason you fellas didn't? Was it a trap or something?"

"Our captain did not want to risk sending one or more of our crawlers away from Odyssey just in case any raiders tried to attack either Odyssey or the investigating crawlers."

OOC: I'm pretty sure I haven't shared this image. But this is how the Odyssey Crawler looked without it's various modifications and armaments.

"Yeees," allowed Seif. "But how do you approach? Frontal assault?"

"Camels!" Deezy chuckles at that one. "No sir, we're not quite that backwards."
(Seif gave his camel a sidelong glance, which the beast somehow managed to quarellously return. Both refrained from further comments.)

"Well, the exhaust vents seem like an easy target, and straight into the engine to..." the young man balks. "Wait a minute. You're not serious? We are not taking that thing on, not if we can just keep our heads down and let Deezy chat 'em up into thinking we're just local rubes."

The other gave him a cold, hard look; considered not answering at all.... then let out a breath: "Wait. Hide. Let it go past. Don't talk. Hide us. This has been my advice for the past fifteen minutes. One minute ago I mentionned play and 'ifs'.... Are you slow, boy, or just innatentive?" As before, the question is not the least bit rhetorical. He really wants to know.

"Honestly? I saw how much you seemed to like that fight back in Victoria Town. Just wanted to make sure you weren't one of those folks who seems sane until the bloodlust hits. Keeping my head down's my preferred method of survival, I admit."
