Do you think WoTC should be sued?

I'm rather mixed on that because it may make Wizards realize what they've been doing to those who been passionate about the game and at the same time feel it may be going a bit overboard. What do you guys think?
I think it'd make an interesting publicity stunt. "Fourth Ed - it's so *not* your daddy's D&D that your daddy took us court!"

Let's say a veteran D&D user (who played/DM'd OD&D, AD&D 1st & 2nd, 3e, and 3.5) filed a lawsuit against WoTC for what they have been doing with 4e and other stuff lately. Do you think that would be justified or frivolous? I'm rather mixed on that because it may make Wizards realize what they've been doing to those who been passionate about the game and at the same time feel it may be going a bit overboard. What do you guys think?

You have not suffered damages. Previously existing works have not been degraded or otherwise altered or otherwise diminished by the changing to fourth edition. Ergo, you have not suffered a loss in value of objects you own, therefore you have absolutely no damages you can claim.

You don't get to successfully sue people because they create other products besides ones that you have already purchased and enjoyed. You have not suffered any loss what-so-ever, and without loss or even potential loss... you can't sue.

I agree with Danny, there seems little to sue for.... you also couldn't sue Microsoft for releasing Windows Vista even though you really, really liked XP. I'm not familiar with the US legal system but even as litigious as the courts can be there and as silly as some lawsuits are (OMG this coffee is hot? Really? It burned me, now I sue you and win... WTF? - Liebeck v. McDonald's Restaurants - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) even they couldn't take something like this on without any merit whatsoever. At least the old woman got burned. Maybe if you can show that 4e gave you third degree burns from playing it or something?

So the coffee wasn't just hot, it was hotter than everyone else served coffee because McD's decided that it would rather extend the life of the coffee grounds and use the savings to pay for the extra injuries caused. That is, McD's knew that it was serving something extra dangerous relative to everyone else serving coffee because it was cheaper.

As for the original post, no, though I am entertained by your logic.

This is why we need 1) Provisions for EXTREME countersuits when people do these kind of suits (usually in alabama), and 2) rules that say ALL PUNITIVE damages go NOT to the plaintiff or their lawyer, but to a general government fund.....I am not a big fan of govt., but if the amount is really punitive, there is no reason for plaintiff to get it...watch these sorts of things vanish

Such a suit wouldn't surivive the first hearing. What damages could such a person demonstrate? Quite simply, none.

No.

First, you have no grounds to sue. Pursuing a desire to sue without grounds would make you a terrible citizen, a burden on a taxed system, and careless with your own finances.

Second, your distaste for 4e/Wizards' actions is your opinion. You can no more go after them for things you don't like than some bleary-eyed teenager can go after the producers of the latest Call of Duty game because they think they made the FAMAS too powerful.

Third, make Wizards realize what they've been doing to the passionate fans? Do you think you have a monopoly on D&D passion? I'm passionate about the game, as are countless other people here, and a lot of us are not only pleased on the whole with WotC's handling of the game but are also excited about their continued plans.

This sounds like nothing more than an urge to start a self-absorbed, overly-entitled crusade.

Why does the tabletop gaming community have so many awful fans?

I personally suffered harm by watching the first d&d movie... and it may have single-handedly destroyed poor marlon wayans' career. I think marlon and I could sue wotc, although they would countersue for the pain caused by scary movie 2, 3, 4, and 5

I have to say, I've seen a lot of insane posts over the past few months, but this one may well take the cake.
