The tragedy of dice collecting

I was never really a 'dice-aholic', but I have a fair sized collection. Back in my active gaming days, I got more into collecting oddball dice instead of collecting matched sets. I have some dice that roll up random weather and treasure, a seven sider, a 30 sider, a solid brass D6 (that would hurt like hell if you threw it at someone), my artillery scatter dice from Warhammer, a 6-sided 'D3'... and a couple of dice that have nothing to do with gaming that a girl gave me once way back when; one die says things like 'touch my.." "kiss my..." etc, and the other has random body parts on it (probably should have spent more time with her...)

As an avid xkcd reader, I'm obligated to include this comic:

I like dice.

Whenever I went to GenCon, I always stopped by the Chessex booth in the Dealer's Hall and considered getting the pitcher-o-dice. The last time I was there, I finally broke down and bought a hand-picked pitcher of dice, which now live in a small treasure chest style box.

Too, I have a small dice bag for when I am a player, another large dice bag (in addition to the chest) for GMing, and a bunch of other dice just kinda hanging around.

As I am planning a new campaign and my to-be-wife has said she'd give gaming a go, we need to get some dice for her too. :D

All in all, I guess that puts me rather in the middle of dicedom.

Someday I would like to get a fish tank, and put a bunch of dice at the bottom...then add fish. Forgot your dice? Now you have to get it from the bottom of the tank.

Filling it with pirrannahs would probably be a little too evil, though.

I did a little thinking and figured out who it is I was thinking of:

Can't find that rare (or not so rare) die?

Ever wonder what a wierd die is used for?

Just want to talk about dice?

Then this is the thread for you ...

I have been gaming and collecting dice since 1977 and am the current Guinness World Record Holder for the Largest Collection of Dice ... so fire away if you need dice info

My aunt used to have those dice as well. I was about 8 when I discovered them behind her basement bar (this would have been about 1980, or so). She was rather red-faced when I brought them up from the basement and asked her what they were for!

I totally feel the OP's pain. When a single Crown Royal bag isn't big enough to hold your dice collection, you have a problem. I have multiple bags of dice and I carry them all around like a bad habit. I have finally stopped buying dice, but I can't keep from carrying them all around with me. My wife thinks its silly, but she has her own issues. When she gets frustrated with a set of dice she literally throws them away and buys a new set. I then rush to the trash to pick them out, wash them off, and add them to my collection.

There is only one die I'm attached to.

I still have my very first d20 I ever bought almost thirty years.

I don't know how I've still got it, but I do.

I even colored it myself. It's incredibly well rounded though and doesn't really stop when it's rolled.

the weird thing about gamescience dice is that they are "precision dice" but you often have to shave off the molding from them...
