D&D 4E Introducing 4eTurnTracker!

Love this tool, thanks!

Bugs found when using 1.0.05 for Windows:

  • Many many times the Ongoing damage condition was not applying damaged at the start of a creatures/player turn. Ongoing 5 was the only one we used during last session, if it matter.
  • Removing a condition by clicking the red 'X' in the "Conditions and Effects" list is just messed up. Many times it was removing a condition from some other creature, in addition to but not always from the creature selected. It was total chaos when removing a condition. See next bug too.
  • Removing a condition by clicking the red 'X' in the "Conditions and Effects" list doesn't always refresh this dialog area. It often needs a repainting.

Suggestions that would make the program better/easier to use:

  • The number field used to quickly "Hit!", "Heal", "Surge", "Temp HP" should always be highlighted and ready for input. This removes the need to always select the number input field before typing in numbers.
  • Condition list drop-down menu should be alphabetized. This will make them easier to find.
  • While the new scaling of the player window is much better than before, it could be better by scaling the list of combatants to fully fill the vertical space.
  • It would be great to have a configurable hotkey option to bind any key to any of the action in 4eTurnTracker. This would also speed up input, especially for the "Hit!", "Heal", "Surge", "Temp HP" input buttons.

Great tool, thanks for making it!! I think I sent you these lists on your website but I'm not sure it made it through.

  • Yes, I have confirmed this. It does not work at all. Thanks for the bug report.

I can confirm that the refresh is missing, but was not able to repeat the case where a condition from some other creature was removed. But I will check the code.

  • What you need to do, is click the HEALTH column, when selecting a creature. Then the input box is highlighted, and you can input a value immediately. (I considered always highlighting the input box, but found that this meant that you could not use the up and down key to select another creature.)
[*]Condition list drop-down menu should be alphabetized. This will make them easier to find.
    Good idea!
[*]While the new scaling of the player window is much better than before, it could be better by scaling the list of combatants to fully fill the vertical space.
So you mean no limit to the font size? Currently the font size maximum is 28 pixels.
[*]It would be great to have a configurable hotkey option to bind any key to any of the action in 4eTurnTracker. This would also speed up input, especially for the "Hit!", "Heal", "Surge", "Temp HP" input buttons.
    Also a good idea :)

Yes, I got that message too, thanks.

Thanks. It looks great. What about powers tracking? I really think that is a missing key feature. :)
My plan is first to display all the powers. I am working on importing/generating the formatted stat blocks that are used everywhere.

I could integrate the D&D compendium (in order to import the HTML of the stat blocks), but this has lead to cease and desist orders from WotC... :-S

So, I am planning to import RTF, which can be easily copied from the Adventure Tools. I could also use the XML exported by A Tools, but I noticed that export is only available for custom monsters, and creating a custom monster for every creature you want to export would be a pain :erm:

I also plan to convert any plain text to a formatted stat block. Only problem: the charge values are often missing, and the other icons.

Anyway, once I get that working I can look into tracking power usage.

But, I intend to focus on the Monsters. 4eTurnTracker is a tool for DM's because DM's can use the help. The players, on the other hand, only need to manage one "creature", and they have plenty of time to do it. So tracking PC powers is not high on the priority list. :)

Thanks for sharing the upcoming stuff and your vision. I really think that you should include PC powers as well, but likely it is easier to implement monsters first.

After all, surges, HP, effects, and so on are just like powers. ;)

Norton did not like your download...and blocked/deleted it.

Thought I would mention it just in case...
Thanks for the info.

Norton may have a problem because the MSI is not signed.

I checked and the MD5 of the uploaded files (MSI and DMG) agree with the MD5 of the files in my build system.

I change the FTP password after every upload, so this there is little chance of hacking.

Nevertheless, I have now published the MD5 values on the download page, so you can confirm the files are correct after download.
