Pathfinder 1E Is Pathfinder D & D?

Pathfinder is "based on ten years of system development," and it "brings the all-time best-selling set of fantasy rules into the new millennium." And the cover art features adventurers fighting a big ol' dragon in the depths of a dungeon.

In the most technical sense, I'd say no. Pathfinder is not Dungeons & Dragons, but it invites you to draw your own conclusions. :)

To me, Pathfinder *was* D&D. Now it's Pathfinder.

When I describe the RPG I'm playing, I say "Pathfinder" not "D&D". (That has taken some getting used to!)

I find this interesting, because when I'm off to run one of my two Pathfinder games, more often than not I say, "I'm going to play D&D."

On Forums, I say Pathfinder is Pathfinder, so as not to cause undue stress to 4e gamers. When I speak to my group I say, we're playing Pathfinder. To anyone else, when describing my hobby, or the publications I am working on, or the maps I create (the latter two are visible everywhere in my shop) I tell people this is for D&D.

To me, however, Pathfinder is D&D and I consider 3.5 its previous edition.

Since I don't play 4e - its not even in the equation.

I'm pretty old school myself (1982) and have to say for my intents and purposes, Pathfinder is D&D. I still use bits and pieces of the old Greyhawk campaign fluff, though...

I've been in a Pathfinder campaign about a year. In the beginning I did the same thing. But in the last 2-3 months, I stopped calling it D&D and now call it Pathfinder (although occasionally I'll still call it D&D - mostly, though, it's Pathfinder).
