This was the inspiration for the BBEG in my current campaign.

Don't have the art to pull for you, maybe someone else's search fu can get it for you all.

But one of my favorite fantasy art pieces are:

The cover to Dwarves Deep.

Also the covers to Mentzer Master box and the Companion box. Just so evocative of the game as it was played out in my imagination in those early years.

Using this one as a character portrait over in L4W.

I tend to enjoy Wayne Reynolds as well.

More as I think of them.

EDIT: uhhhh. What happened to all of my art?
EDIT 2: Ok. I've tried repasting them into the spoilers a bunch of times. No dice. So...well...
I dunno what to tell ya...go Google-Images up Jeff Dee, Bill Willingham and Larry Elmore.

From the very beginning, Jeff Dee and Bill Willingham really got my imagination sparking.

Of course, the artist in me was completely awestruck by the "realism" of Larry Elmore's images. I spent hours and hours, weeks and weeks of time trying to get my humanoids/characters to look as good as his...getting the folds of cloaks, the detailing on leathers and armor, laces and pouches and the sheen on metal "just right." Now...eh, I suppose I have my own style/look for drawing characters...much more comic-booky than Elmore, maybe harkening back to Dee and Willingham, actually, now that I'm looking at them all together. But Elmore's images were a wonderful "mentor" for me growing up.

The cleric that spawned my (and I'm sure many other's) first cleric character...

For me there are too many pieces to show from D&D art.

Suffice to say if it's by Willingham, Dee, Roslof, Otus, Sutherland, Tramp, Holloway,Reynolds, or Mullen, I dig! :D
