So what does ENWorld figure happened here? Is Yukyuk's Search really terrible, did V not issue the command he* implied he would, or were the DCs just insanely high? Or is this just another case of Rule of Funny being a law of nature in the OotS setting?

* Pronoun chosen arbitrarily for convenience's sake, and not intended to convey any opinion on V's actual gender. I'll try to remember to use "she" next time it matters.

I'd say V's being a jerk and just ordered him to walk up the stairs. Rule of funny, and a bait and switch in that V explained exactly how he could make Yukyuk search for traps and then just had him walk straight into them anyways.

Come to think of it though, it probably would have been more effective to actually have him search. If they really were such high-level traps he likely would have triggered some anyways, but probably would have gotten them past more than three.

I'm guessing it's a hint he's not a rogue but rather some other class with sneak attack and that he has neither the rogues affinity for search nor the skill ranks necessary to traps.

So what does ENWorld figure happened here?

I figured it was Varsuvius just being a jerk. :) Remember, V still has a LOT of nastiness lurking under that exterior...

Plus, Rule of Funny ALWAYS applies where OOTS is concerned.

On another note, Haley's suspiciously specific claim that she's been keeping her search rank maxxed may be a clue as to why she didn't find that mega-deathtrap that hit Roy back in the dungeon of Dorukan.

Perhaps she's suffered from the same mistake as Belkar, no ranks in an important class skill.
