Lich Chess

I had an odd brainstorm over the weekend. Wouldn't it be fun to play chess where your king is a lich and can't die until you destroy its phylactery, which is carried by one of the other pieces?

Okay, so maybe I'm the only one who finds that sort of thing fun, but I thought I'd toss it out there anyway! My blog post on the rules of Lich Chess can be found here. Comments welcome - even if they're just, "OnlineDM, you're a strange dude."

When I saw the subject, it gave the idea for a campaign where all the events are set in motion by two lichs trying to conquer a country over a couple of hundred years, and the PCs are being used as pawns as we enter the end game.

There should be the option for the Lich to regenerate from his phylactery. Maybe if you take the king while the phylactery bearer is still in play, the phylactery bearer turns into the new king.

I'd so use this if my Cyndus wouldn't have spent an entire season playing variant chess/preparing for it respectively ;)
