Help me find some groomsmen's gifts!

SteveC

Doing the best imitation of myself
So I am getting married in a couple of months (which is incredible... I'm so lucky!) and I have a couple of groomsmen who are great friends since, well forever.

Both of them have gamed with me since the days of the White Box, but they don't game at the moment (which is sad, but it is unlikely to change). Both of them are HUGE nerds, with all of the classic nerd interests.

My dilemma is what to get them for a groomsman's gift. I have a budget of about $100 each, and I don't want to get them something lame like you typically see. So help me out ENWorld... what's a good nerd gift to get?

To give you an idea of what I'm thinking, our ceremony is going to end with the Medal Theme from the original Star Wars (the scene where Chewie doesn't get a medal...) so I was thinking about some replicas of the medal from Yavin... Amazon actually has these in stock.

At the same time, I think there is a much better idea out there... so, help! Ideas are greatly appreciated!

I was going to suggest subscriptions to Knights of the Dinner Table, but those Star Wars medals sound awesome! I find a gift inscribed with just the date of the event to be good, so maybe you could get your wedding date put on them.

That's actually what I was planning on doing. Something to remember the day by!

My gaming nerd best man and groomsman were also art geeks. So I got them hardcover sketchbooks and some materials.

But at least as important - have you and your soon-to-be wife hashed out whether or not you're getting each other wedding gifts? I got blindsided because I didn't even know that people did that (not having watched much Mad About You).

Congratulations! Two and a half weeks for me...

Funny you should mention that... :)

(Incidentally, that piece is called "Throne Room", and appears on the Episode III soundtrack as well, as part of the closing credits. I believe it is slightly slower there than in Star Wars itself, and sounds that bit better for it, IMO at least. Though we have a friend who is going to play it on the church organ for us.)

That seems like a pretty decent idea. I got my best man an engraved hip flask, while the piper and minister (who are my other two brothers) will be getting kilt pins. The others are getting a set of cufflinks each.

Which I appreciate may or may not be helpful.

That's great! I wish you all the best, as one of the consistently nicest posters around here! I envy you at having a piper, though... the last wedding I was at had one and it was amazing.

I'm extremely lucky, since Star Wars will be a part of the wedding, and also because she's still marrying me after I suggested one of the ushers dress as the Tron guy (he actually volunteered for this, and said he'd come out to start the ceremony by saying "greetings, programs!"

We aren't going to do this, mind you, but she almost agreed to have her maid of honor come in banging coconuts together to the travel theme from Holy Grail.

Oh yes, I'm a lucky man...

[aside]The Throne Room music is really just a different treatment of the Force Theme.[/aside]

Are there any memorable characters of theirs that you still discuss?

If so maybe you could find miniatures that are similar, paint them and try to make it obvious who they are.

When I got married my groomsmen got leathermen multi-tools. Not exactly rpg related but they were well received.

Is the procession going to be the Imperial March?
