Describe your non-RPG book collection

We have six 6' x 3' bookcases, full, three of the 3' x 3' and various other shelves with subjects ranging from Astonomy to Zimbabwe.

Looking at thee top-shelf below, is that the Matchbox Lamborghini Countach from the late 70s/maybe early 80s? I remember having that one when I was a kid.

And why I remember Matchbox cars from 35 years ago I have no idea. I'm not a collector of them or anything.

As an example, I have a hallway lined with a custom bookcase- here's about a 4' section of it:



There's at least another 20' worth of that. In addition, there's another 2 short freestanding bookcases of similar size in other parts of the house, and a big 7' tall one in my bedroom.

My wife posted a picture of it on her blog, its new so not organised yet. It's custom as we've moved in 2 months (almost 3 now) ago.

Yes it is, and next to it is a Montaverde Hai. I used to have an extensive and varied collection of cars- including some limited edtions- from Matchbox, Hot Wheels, Corgi and others. I forgot a chunk of them at one of my grandmothers' house over a summer and she thought I didn't want them...gave many away to the local kids.

Those I have left are now incidental decor, as you see.

Most of my non-RPG books are non-fiction and primarily related to religion and politics and related topics (history, economics etc...). I have 6 linear metres of RPG books and nearly four times that for non-fiction. My fiction collection is relatively small: 3 linear metres.

Oh, and my RPG folder on my laptop is around 32 GB.

I have...books. I bought just about a hundred at the last local book sale. Added to the existing two bookshelves of books "to be read", and that's a few hundred on my "to be read" list. A lot of well-reviewed/award-winning general fiction, nonfiction, and mystery/crime, not so much sf or fantasy as I tend to read those first. I've also been making an effort the past few years to expand my reading outside of fantasy/sci-fi (Scandanavian crime thrillers are generally thumbs up; general mysteries are hit or miss, general fiction likewise, nonfiction is a slog unless it's natural history related or something like 1492 or 1493, which is sitting on the newest "to be read" shelf just above me.) I make lists based on authors I like, authors similar to authors I like (Amazon & Goodreads are helpful for this), New York Times 10 Best of the Year, and similar lists, and use those to guide what I get at the booksale (twice a year, and it's big). Plus Amazon for impulse buys.

Read books are mostly in boxes, although there is a bookshelf or two around with good books. There's probably 10 boxes in the upstairs closet, and more under a bench downstairs. There are comic books (X-Men related) under the guest bed. I had a lot of comics, but did a serious purge a few years back and got rid of a good 20 boxes. I got rid of a lot of books then too. And RPG books.

I've also got a fair collection of mythology/folklore/fairy tales, home design, woodworking, and assorted stuff. Plus National Geographic and a few other magazines.

The top photo is of the books I bought last month (minus those I've read). Ignore the AT-ST walker, the slide box full of markers, the booze, the Star Wars movies at far right, and the magazines (Family Handyman on the left, National Geographic on the right, paint samples, kids music books, and misc stuff in the center.)

Lower photo is the other bookcase in the room. Books to be read on the top shelf, some reference and stuff on the second shelf (I have no idea why the shaving cream is there, I've used an electric razor for 10 years, and only been in this house 5), RPG, reference, and overflow on the third shelf, Design/building/overflow on the fourth shelf, and X-Men collections on the bottom.

I have about 300 books. Most of it is SF and fantasy but also some American history, technothrillers, classic literature, and then there's the odd general fiction or non-fiction. To all that I can add a couple of dictionaries, thesauri, a set of old encyclopedias that I never use (I just keep them to fill the shelves), and then there's a couple cabinets of gaming books and materials.

I have a ridiculous amount of non-gaming books about 4000 paperbacks SF & Mystery -- accumulated over the last 30+ years. I used to easily read a 300 pg novel each day. Had a job where I was babysitting at a flight-simulator -- too much free time (and I was single back then). Now I am married and we moved into a new house and I had 27 2-cubes full of books! Good thing that the garage has a loft where I can store them

I have no idea why I keep them -- nostalgia I guess -- last time I re-read a book was Fritz Leiber "Those who watch" one my all time favs.

By the way, that bookshelf looks eerily familiar. I recognize *way* too many of those spines.

I read mostly nonfiction. I've got science magazines and textbooks, and my hard drive is full of studies taken from academic journals.

Come to think of it, aside from Jack Vance, H.P. Lovecraft, and Robert E. Howard, I don't read any fiction that I don't myself write.
