I suspect she had them backed into a corner and and was about to skin them and turn their coats into mittens, when Cat-Leonidas stepped forward and meowed "THIS IS (wood in Southern France)!!" And then they went for her.

You keep believing that. This is only one video of several that I've seen. If a domestic cat will do that, I can certainly imagine feral cats doing worse.
