D&D 5E D&D Next Release Date Set -- Summer 2014

Although Turbine could probably knock out a DDO implementation of it in pretty short order. It is not so different to 3rd edition from a programming perspective. Different combat script, the really tricky would be creating the enhancement table to give one the 60 or so ranks, Not sure is the audience would be there for that though.

You can't simply change the complete core mechanics of a already established game. The playerbase would rebel and DDO would be dead instantly.
And for a new game you would need a new graphics engine etc. as the DDO one doesn't cut it any more for a new release. Also, marketing would have started by now as no company can afford to get only PnP players as customers so that they could rely on the DDN release as only source of promotion. They would have to run a separate campaign which targets MMO gamers.

Winter Fantasy is Feb 6-9 this year.

While no longer d&d eXperience, based on past, er, experience, more details, like particular products and dates, will be announced there.
And if things hold true to past Winter Fantasy cons, we will already know many of the details they plan to announce then (format, price, date) because the books hit Amazon as pre-orders.
And all the questions we do want answered they'll still be coy and silent about

Ugh. I hope not. They didn't support the one they had. Mismanaged the heck out of it driving people away and not adding any new fixes, then cancelled it because no one was using it.

I'm just hoping it doesn't mean "we're releasing D&D on the Playstation 4!" or any other console.

Players will be immersed in rich storytelling experiences across multiple gaming platforms as they face off against the most fearsome monster of all time.

Hell yes! I am so happy I can play D&D regardless if I have a PlayStation, Xbox, or Wii! They better not throw us PlayStation 2 users under the bus and not support it! I mean mine is equipped with the optional hard disk drive and network adapter. Why would I upgrade? I can't wait to kill that fearsome monster... wait... huh... the single most important monster of all time... once I kill him is the game over? Boy this edition is going to be different.

Is it just me or does that press release look like it was written by the video game overseas art department that Wizards hired to do the fifth edition artwork? It even reads like a bad translation! :D

Regarding the Edition

PS: Wizards didn't splash Fourth Edition over all the books last time either. The books are just titled "Dungeons & Dragons" but they clearly they are the fourth edition and the company does refer to them as that. Fifth Edition will also be heralded as "Dungeons & Dragons" but is clearly also the fifth edition and the company will recognize it. On the official company PDF store all the D&D Next material is listed under "Fifth Edition" already: dndclassics.com.

I was not really contemplating it as a replacement of the existing game but as additional server along side the existing game with the 5e style mechanics still doubt there is a market for it.

What would be wrong with a release on the playstation? as Long as you have the in print edition how does it negatively impact you.

Now it occurs to me that it Wizards does anything on the VTT line it should be a console app.

Wouldn't it be better with an app for android/ios? So you could play on a tablet?
