Am I just blind or something? Related to D&D pdf site.

When I go to the D&D classics site to get PDFs I see no where to download the actual core books of said editions. Am I just not searching for something correctly I mean, the promise of all editions available is a good one, but not having the CORE books is really really awful if what i'm seeing is true.

Yes, as GX.Sigma notes, WotC seems averse to releasing PDFs of print product that they (or their distributors) still have in stock. None of the core rulebooks (OD&D, 1E, 2E or 3.5E), or adventures (A series, S series) that got the reprint treatment has been released on the DNDClassics site so far.

I note that if you bought them previously (i.e. 2009 or whenever) on DriveThruRPG, they are available again, or were a couple of months ago (2E PHB and DMG anyway). That wasn't true before the D&DClassics thing (or in the first month or three).

I can redownload the core 3 for 4th edition if I want.

The files are there.

As long as they keep releasing 5 files per week of adventures and setting material I can see them holding off of releasing the in-print items.

Yes, some of the historical PDF releases (particular the 4e titles) were available for download again as soon as the DNDClassics site went live, provided that you'd bought them previously. Others were only added later (often a day or two before they were made generally available again), or not at all (all of the OD&D titles).

By my count, 38% of all D&D releases are currently available again as PDFs from DNDClassics. At the current release rate (roughly five items per week), the entire D&D back catalog should be available by May 2017.

Here's a graph of what proportion of titles from each edition is currently available as PDFs:

I also don't see a lot of core setting products either, only accessories and adventures.

It's a neat option, but far from comprehensive, needlessly limited in its release schedule, and lacking some very basic books.

Once you exclude map sets, tiles, miniatures, cards, and board games I think 3.x and 4e are much closer to completion.

4e breaks down to roughly:
77 print products (books and adventures), 20 tiles or maps, 22 minis products (including Dungeon Command and Heroscape), 10 games, and 14 misc (including power cards and fortune cards).
Plus 12 Encounters or Special PDF releases that had limited availability.

By my count we're at 23 of 77 for 4e books and adventures.

Although I expect there will be gaps in the full library.

Thanks for this. They really did release way too much stuff for 2E. And released it too fast for 4E.

I guess we will see what happens with 5.
