1) A character throwing a Long Sword 3 square to another persosnagem take it, is a free action or action?

2) A character pass (hand to hand) A Long Sword 1 Square (adjacent) to another persosnagem take it, is a free action or action?

There are no free actions. Be careful when allowing trading items for free. It won´t take long that a single magic sword will be passed around in combat from one person to another. RAW it could be argued to work... but really, it should not. One of those things you can´t prevent by rules. Those things, like the "conga line" are in the "common sense" territory.

I recently had number 1 come up. I let them throw it as their free use an object, but the character on the other end had to make a DC 10 dexterity check to catch it. Roll failed, and the sword stuck point first into the ground, so the character had to use their action to pull it out. It was a little kludgy, I admit, but it was an on the fly ruling.

As far as number two, I would just have both characters use their free use an object this turn. I would probably allow the 2nd character to immediately pass it on to a third as part of the same use an object. (note that immediately means NO using it for anything in between receiving and passing, so no magic weapon conga line). That seems pretty in line with the guidelines of use an object in the phb.

The way I would rule it.
1) A tosses sword to B: A uses action B uses reaction with a Dex check
2) A places object in B's hand: A uses action. If B is not aware of it (it's a surprise) A must make a contested Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check versus B's Wisdom to overcome B's surprise at an object being placed in its hand. Failure. The item falls to the floor.

The best things in life are free ... but not in DnD. As UngeheuerLich said, there are no free actions (and no free lunch, either). So, you wanna play, you gotta pay ... with an action.

These would count as a free item interactions IMO.

I'd make 1 an action, since it requires significant time and calculation to chuck a sharp implement at someone for them to catch it without cutting off their arm.

I wouldn't make 2 an action -- you can give folks stuff, it's fine.

I would allow the first PC to throw or give the sword as his/her free "interact with an object," and the second PC to accept it as a reaction. For the throw, I might also require both characters to make Dex checks, where the total of both checks must exceed 20.

1) If there's nobody in the intervening space, neither character involved is in active melee, and the sword is in a sheath, I'd call tossing it to a friend the free "interact with object/environment" for the round. If there's other people you have to avoid hitting along the way, someone to interfere with the toss, or if the sword is unsheathed (so, catching it wrong is *bad*), I'd probably call it an action.

2) Handing off the sword? Each character uses their free "interact with object/environment". Done.
