Ah, to go back and look through the book once again with fresh eyes... that sense of wonder as each page turn reveals a new, lovely piece of artwork... to see the condition sketches again for the first time...

I would go with DMG since you can find many monsters in the web enchantments for Tiamat AP free in the Wizards site.

I just noticed last night that all the armor classes are solid numbers, not just an armor bonus. I mean, it says Padded, AC 11, Chain AC 16, Full Plate AC 18. Then it asks you to add your Dexterity modifier, maybe.

That tickles me in a nostalgic, old-school way.

The little sketches in the back of each book are also awesome. Like the fighter who's going to poke a flumph with a ten-foot pole, or the blindfolded Karate Dwarf.

The book has great rules, fantastic artwork and style too. Best of all, it celebrates 40 years of D&D history by incorporating great ideas from just about every edition that came before it. If I had room on my bookshelf, I'd probably buy another one.

Congrats, yes, the MM is your next book if you plan to DM (ironically the DMG should be your last, but necessary purchase).

That's a tough call, but I think I'd recommend the MM as well. The MM gives you tons of monsters plus the awesome flavor text that goes with each one (and the artwork too, of course). Just reading the descriptions will give you adventure ideas (much like the 2E Monstrous Manual did when I used to read that book).

Still, the DMG is so packed full of cool and interesting stuff... it's difficult to choose between two masterpieces.
