Moving Stuff

I won't move anything posted in this Lifeboat forum for a while. Once things have settled down a bit, I'll see about starting to move threads to appropriate locations on the boards. In the meantime, feel free to post anything that needs saving here, even if you need to clean it up later. Also, please do encourage other content creators on WotC's forums to copy their content here so that it gets saved. We can use this area as a general storage ground.

When the threads gets moved, links to them will still work. So don't worry about that. If you link to a thread from elsewhere, the link won't get broken when we start shuffling stuff around.

This subforum will probably be a bit of a mess for a while. That's fine. First priority is getting the stuff here; second priority is tidying up!

I'll also enable all the D&D prefixes in here, so threads can be tagged with the appropriate edition. We'll probably be glad of that later. If you want to tag your existing thread, simply edit the first post and change the prefix.

Finally - there's now a D&D Adventurer's League forum here for those who are coming from that particular forum at WotC.

IMO:

1: Save all the guides: Copy all the guides to the temp forum. Then lock them. I think it's reasonable to assume that guides posted on the WotC site are intended to be openly read.

2: Give credit: Find the original user, let him copy under his own name / give him control, and unlock it.
2b: If no one comes to claim it, (by January?), move it over anyways, give credit in the title and keep it locked.

3: Clean up: Delete the temp thread / forum.

I'd add that I have now worked out how to change the owner of a post, so if that needs doing with any given content, simply let me know. Much easier than making people copy it all again.

Is there an easy way to see what's already been copied and what has not?

I'm not asking to make waves or anything, but I can't think of an easy way to mark a guide as "copied" for this project's purposes, neither here nor there. It seems to me that we just have to skim through the threads in this subforum to see if a particular guide has been copied or not.

someone would have to keep a running list.

Can't folks just post in a thread they've moved that they've done so? Along with a link, for added convenience. Then anyone moving something just checks the end of the thread to see if anyone has noted they moved it, and if a content creator sees such a link on their thread they can follow it and claim the content easily.

Something like this might be useful, but it would have to be part of a set of stickied and clear instructions. It would also quickly get pretty long and unwieldy.

It might be more effective to use a google-docs spreadsheet, listing the threads to be copied in the first column, who volunteers to copy them in a second column, where they wind up in a third column, and whether the original owner has been given ownership in a fourth. It would be much easier to update by anyone involved, and viewers could sort it alphabetically to find whether the guide or thread they're interested in has been taken care of or not.

3.X Threads

I have a post with instructions and a list of moved threads relating to 3.X over on Giant in the Playground: giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?444041-Threads-from-the-Wizards-forums

PM me there or post a link to your thread in that thread and I'll add a link.

I have the account for half a year and now I can't help to save things from wizards forums because I haven't posted enough times here, that sucks :/
