Question. I organize for stores and cons. I've several events upcoming, getting the conventions to pay isn't going to happen, neither are the gamers. At least not for the next few cons. I either cancel or eat the cost. I do not have it in the budget to pay to run for 12 plus hours and it's hard enough to get DMs I'm NOT going to ask them to pay. Is there any other recourse. If I'm cancelling I'll have to make up my mind soon.

I run conventions. Believe me when I say I know conventions won't pay. Most of them lose money as-is. Let me get with you privately about some options.

Restless to say the least. Part of me feel like they are delivering the bad news and letting people dwell on it so the mediocre news is going to look good by comparison.

Dwell on it? For heaven's sake, we just found out about it yesterday, we got more info from the admins today, and they are having an AMA tomorrow. How do people even have the time to start getting 'restless' in the 36 hours or so that the info first broke?

I dunno. Why not release it all at once? *shrugs*

Just go look at facebook. People are crazy up in there.

Because people need to eat, and sleep, and have their day jobs during any particular 24-hour period? I think 36 hours is a bit brief for people to be getting all mind-blown panicky here yet.

Man, don't I know it. Absolutely bonkers.

Oh! You mean specifically about this issue. Well, that's unfortunately a side-effect of the modern impatient 'gotta-have-everything-now-2-minutes-is-too-long-for-a-hot-pocket-why-didn't-you-text-me-back-immediately?' lifestyle.

That guy, who does that thing.
With the elimination of Encounters/Expeditions, will stores need to schedule ad-hoc D&D days in order to qualify to be D&D Premier Stores, or will signing up for the game days promoting the new products be sufficient?

These changes do not affect season 3, so if its the immediate future, it has no effect on you.

I believe the AMA will address that. Stores will be getting specific information from their reps on how to proceed. They should contact their support people at WOTC if the don't get their questions answered after the AMA.

Please note that the separation between Encounters/Expeditions and the titles might go away, the adventures are not. We're still putting out adventures, its just that you can play them whenever and it doesn't have to be a Wednesday night at your store.

Thanks -- should have put a number on the question to indicate that I was hoping it would be asked at the AMA.

That reminds me, though I'm not sure this rises to the level of something that needs to be in the new ALPG:

With the removal of the distinction between Encounters and Expeditions, can/should DMs enforce a rule that a character can only be played in one 'game' at a time? (i.e.: a character being played through a weekly Out of the Abyss game should not be played in the monthly DDEX game, and a different character should be used.)

That would be a rule that would largely apply to games being played in a single venue, rather than characters taken from an ongoing game and taken to a convention -- though again, if someone in an Out of the Abyss game went to Winter Fantasy, for example, and came back with two extra levels and three magic items, could the local DM refuse to seat the character? Note that this rule would only really be applicable to ongoing games from the 'hardback' adventures**, to help preserve the integrity of those adventures; clearly the rule would not apply when a player who plays in DDEX games locally goes to a convention and plays more DDEX games there legally.

** - The current ALPG notes that characters returning after exiting Lost Mine or Out of the Abyss to play a DDEX module is not recommended, and that such characters should only return at the start of a new chapter in the 'hardback' adventure.
